Ketuanan Melayu Policy Creates the Pygmalion Effect and "Enslaves" the Malay Community

"....There is this item in human psychology known as the Pygmalion effect.

Simply stated it means that a person will behave in the manner he is treated by another. An illustration would be a teacher saying to his students that they are stupid and will not pass their exams. The students will somehow become stupid with many failing their exams.

Now the Ketuanan Melayu has been spoon-feeding the Malay, strengthening his crutches, giving accolades to his 'Third World' mentality.

Furthermore, it drums into the Malay mind that he is weak, needs help now and forever and is dependent on the government for his survival.

Without this concerted help, the Malay will NOT survive. It says AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN.

It is creating the PYGMALION Effect.

The Malay mind will be more deeply embedded in the changeless paradigm box of Confusion, Conformity, Conservatism, Contradiction, Conflict, and always denying his shortcomings.

The Ketuanan Melayu is also denying new ideas from rescuing the Malay from the box of the changeless status quo.

In this situation his leaders are busy involving themselves with the most rotten "C" of all - CORRUPTION.

Now I propose to name the make of the bus that is flattening the Malaysian polity. I wish to call it the 'Ketuanan Melayu Pygmalion'.

My contention is that the mainstream Malay mind has not got sufficient awareness that change is taking place. His natural thinking has not developed to scientific thinking.

The Malay mind is not privy to alternatives so he is never wrong. Malay thinking is unilateral, judgmental,and the tendency for syllogism. It has tendency for hyperbolism, but not privy to alternatives.

Any inherited wisdom is considered the truth and the whole truth. It can never be wrong. Again take note of the Malay contention that the Malay race is the best, and Islam is the only one religion for mankind. His favourite ideology 'untuk agama, bangsa dan negara' says it all.

The Malay penchant for conformity renders him supporting the status quo, to be conservative. Again his penchant to preserve and protect Malay tradition, language, and culture as an example of this feature.

The Malay polity is controlled by an autocratic body, in the form of a king or a strong personality.This is where Malay polity believes very strongly that his views are right. He uses the central authority 'bestowed' on him to subdue the people.

For religion, control has always been in the hands of a central body namely the priestly or ulama class. The government would almost automatically assume a superior role over the population.

All new knowledge especially those that do not fall within the ambit of Malay perception of truth are criticised and condemned (and eventually rejected). The non-Malay segment of the citizenry are marginalised and termed 'pendatang' (immigrants), prostitutes and beggars. Political opponents are harassed and intimidated.

The individual is coerced to be loyal and show respect his elders, race and religion as a matter of sacred duty.

The Malay mind is not privy to the modern day wisdom that loyalty and respect must be earned.

To the Malay mind, any and all that does not come within its known parameters are suspect. The Ketuanan Melayu will hardly ever voluntarily admit to any short-coming, mistake, misgiving, or mismanagement.

Instead it thinks nothing of cheating, lying, hiding of facts, projecting half-truths, or cover-ups.

When Khairy Jamaludin sarcastically called Ibrahim Ali a 'jaguh kampung' or village champion, a deragotary remark, Ibrahim Ali turned it around by claiming it as a huge compliment!

Society is coerced to adhere strictly to religious tenets and principles. The Islamic religion is full of dogmas to ensure this in any case.

The people are compelled to be loyal to the Ketuanan Melayu leadership and government of the day Those who do not conform are intimidated, penalised and punished. This is very easily done with the very long list of laws like the ISA, OSA, PPPA, and the Sedition Act....."

A lot of things have developed recently centring on the formulation and implementation of grandiose public policies under the Ketuanan Melayu leadership.

Public opinion and perception however say most of them have proven ill-conceived, poorly implemented or constructed, causing colossal wastage of life, money and other resources, and hardly ever comprehensively and professionally managed.

Many of them are even crooked and sinful in nature. Just look at :

• the Maminco debacle,
  
  
• the forex fiasco in the 80s,
  
  
• the recent PKFZ controversy,
  
  
• faulty submarines,
  
  
• lost air force jet engines,
  
  
• abuse of public institutions,
  
  
• broken public institutions,
  
  
• very recently the falling roof of a stadium in Terengganu and
  
  
• revelations of possible hanky panky with the construction figures of the new Agong's palace and with the Felda accounts.

It's the devil's free for all out there.

When was the last time we got up in the morning, turned on the alternative communication media, read the latest exposure of government indiscretions and misconduct and not had our hair stand on end?

I am presenting this article hoping to understand the issue so as to enable us, the poor Malaysian citizenry, withstand the effects of failed Ketuanan Melayu policies. If we are to be run down by a bus, at least we should know what make it is.

(A) C for Contention

The C stands for 'Contentions' (or assumptions):

The basic assumption is that human thinking is divisible into two - the NATURAL and the RATIONAL .

Say HELLO to Perkasa and Ibrahim Ali:

Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said today that anyone was free to form an association, including Chinese or Indian versions of the Malay rights group, Perkasa.

“We can have Chinese Perkasa and even Indian Perkasa. The government does not stop anyone from forming a body” he said today.

He said that it was an individual’s right to form an association and it was acceptable as long as it was formed with good intentions.

Muhyiddin was responding to reports quoting MCA vice president Datuk Donald Lim as suggesting the formation of a “Chinese Perkasa” in response to the Malay rights group’s strident rhetoric and race-based demands.

Perkasa has grown from a one-man cause to include thousands of Malays who feel disaffected by proposed economic reforms that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak wants to use to turn Malaysia into a high-income nation for a plural society.

It has managed to influence Najib into continuing with an affirmative action policy for Bumiputeras, despite having signalled that his New Economic Model (NEM) is for all Malaysians, under his 1 Malaysia concept.

Ibrahim has used Perkasa to form an umbrella body called the Malay Consultative Council (MPM) and has received the support of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Perkasa’s demands for what it says are Malay rights has caused unease among some non-Malays, as well as moderate and liberal Malays who see the group as racist.

Muhyiddin said today Perkasa was not funded by Umno, but by independent Pasir Mas MP Ibrahim Ali, who “might want to fight for Malay rights”. Read here for more


Say GOOD-BYE to Perkasa and Ibrahim Ali

The Barisan Nasional issued a clear signal today of its disassociation from Perkasa when Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz declared that the Umno did not support or recognise the Malay rights group.

The minister in the prime minister’s department said Umno was against any form of racism and that Perkasa’s ideals did not fit the Najib administration’s focus on plurality and unity.

“We should get rid of Perkasa. Why do I say that? Because Perkasa is not in line with Datuk Seri Najib (Razak’s) 1 Malaysia concept,” Nazri told The Malaysian Insider.

“We (are) against any form of racism and Perkasa certainly doesn’t belong or [is] supported by Umno,” said Nazri. Read here for more

Nazri said the suggestion to establish a Chinese equivalent of Malay rights pressure group Perkasa would only cause racial tension among the Malays and Chinese at a time when the government is trying to defuse this.

"We want to get rid of Perkasa and (yet) he wants to (encourage) extremism," said Nazri, when approached by reporters in the Parliament lobby today.

"What about that extremist Indian group? Let's also form Kadazan extremist groups, Iban and (others). Let's all fight-lah, if that is what (Lim) wants.”

On former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad's suggestion that Umno should engage Perkasa leaders more, Nazri pointed out that the BN does not represent Malays only.

Nazri said,

“Who are the citizens of this country? Are they all Malays? There are non-Malays as well. (Does he mean) that you people have no say at all? That you are a second-class citizen?

That will be the case if you agree with his (Mahathir's) statement. No! We cannot tolerate this (kind of position even if it comes) from the former prime minister or anyone else.

This is a multi-racial country.

For a leader to say that we need to engage more Malays, what are you trying to say exactly? Are you trying to say the non-Malays are not an important component of our country? I think that's unacceptable.”

Nazri also warned that the government will take action against Perkasa if it makes seditious statements.

.... AND IBRAHIM ALI SAYS:

Datuk Ibrahim Ali traded verbal blows with Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz over his jibe against Perkasa, saying that it was the minister who should be gotten rid of if Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) wanted to retain the people’s support.

In a text message to The Malaysian Insider this afternoon, the Perkasa president said Nazri’s statement had come from “someone who has LOST the ability to think”.

The outspoken independent Pasir Mas MP said that Perkasa was just a non-governmental organisation and had nothing to lose.He added:

“His (Nazri) statement is not worth entertaining as it has no value and it is a waste of time.

So, get rid of Nazri if Umno and BN wants to retain the support of the people.”

The fiery politician went on to deride the minister’s remarks as bringing “no value to BN”, before adding that Nazri would ultimately “make the Malays hate Umno more.”

Nazri is the first Umno leader who has issued such a strong statement against Perkasa, indicating that BN did not support or recognise the non-governmental organisation.

“We do not listen to just one person (Nazri). Perkasa members have the right to decide the way forward,” Ibrahim added. Perkasa’s popularity, he claimed, was also growing as it has now received membership forms from more than 200,000 people.

He even cheekily added “goodbye, Datuk Nazri” in his statement, indicating that the call from the minister in the prime minister’s department had done nothing to threaten him. Read here for more

Minister Rais Yatim made the call following the allegation by a blogger in New York, Elaine Meinel Supkis, that PKR advisor Anwar Ibrahim was a “tool” of the CIA, the US intelligence agency, to protect American interest and its covert operations in Malaysia.

Rais Yatim Should Apologise to Anwar Ibrahim

John R. Malott was the United States Ambassador to Malaysia from 1995 to 1998.

Minister of Information, Communications, and Culture Rais Yatim owes Anwar Ibrahim, the Malaysian people, and the US government an apology.

Rais recently was named as one of three persons in Malaysia whose job it is to "thwart the dissemination of false news by irresponsible people."

That is indeed a worthy goal. No one want to see false news disseminated.

So one would have hoped that at the first opportunity he had to perform the job he was appointed to do, Rais would ensure that the news he received was true. But that was not to be.

Here's what happened.

On July 11, Utusan Malaysia published an article claiming (not for the first time) that Anwar is a CIA agent. Utusan quoted a blog in America that no one has ever heard of. Utusan falsely said that it is a “well-known” blog. and stooge.

For its evidence, Rais didn't check the background of the blog's author, and I doubt he even read the blog before he spoke. Instead, he ran with what Utusan reported.

If Rais had checked, then after a 15-second Google search, he would have learned that Utusan's "expert" says she has been struck by lightning 10 times - inside her house - and that the Queen of England is engaged in money laundering.

She says she lives on a mountain in New York with her horses and cats and dogs and chickens.

So how could she know anything about Malaysia and who is a CIA agent?

Before Rais disseminated false news from such a person, why didn't he check the truth and save himself from embarrassment?

Why didn't he do the job he was recently appointed to do?

But it is not just Rais and Utusan. It amazes me that today people in Malaysia still continue to disseminate the nonsense that "Anwar is a CIA agent" for their own political gain.

I dealt with this issue 10 years ago in an article I wrote for Malaysiakini ('Anwar was never an American spy', Sept 2, 2000) in which I said categorically that Anwar is NOT and NEVER has been an American agent.

If I was lying 10 years ago, then :

• Why couldn't Mahathir - after 22 years in control of the Special Branch - prove me wrong?
  
  
• And why hasn't anyone been able to prove it in the seven years since Mahathir left power?
  
  
• Why can't they prove it today, instead of relying on the ramblings of mountain top bloggers in New York?
  
  
• Why hasn't Anwar ever been arrested on espionage charges?

It's an easy answer - because it is not true. Anwar is not and never has been an American agent.

I say this for the same reason I told then-foreign minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in 1998: If you say that Anwar is an American agent, you also are saying - falsely - that America is interfering in the internal political affairs of Malaysia, and that is not true.

As I wrote in Malaysiakini a decade ago (I had then said I went to 'a very senior official in the Malaysian government. I can reveal now that the official was Abdullah), I said that on behalf of my government, Anwar was NOT a CIA agent.

And if the Malaysian government arrested Anwar and claimed that he was an American agent, we would immediately issue a denial of the strongest order and challenge the Malaysian government to issue any proof to the contrary.

I also bluntly told Abdullah that his government would be embarrassed because they could never offer any proof to the contrary – because it does NOT exist.

I went on to say that the Malaysian government might have its internal political differences with Anwar, but if it made a false claim against the US, namely, that we have interfered in your internal affairs, that someone in the government is an American agent, then it is involving the US, and we will expose it for the lie that it is.

Today, twelve years after I met with Abdullah, Malaysia still has not offered any proof that Anwar is an American agent - because it is NOT true.

Finally, there is one more person that Rais Yatim needs to apologise to, and that is Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak. That is because Najib has made a special effort to improve relations with the US. People in both countries think that so far he has succeeded.

So why are you now undercutting your prime minister's efforts and claiming that the American government is interfering in Malaysia's internal affairs and supporting the opposition?

And if the US government is happy with Najib's efforts, then where is the logic in supporting Anwar and the opposition?

Najib Govt's Reign of Terror: Military Officer TORTURED during Interrogation

N Tharmendran, 42,a former RMAF sergeant, claimed he was detained and TORTURED by military intelligence for THREE weeks .

He believes he is not the only one being tortured by the intelligence officers, claiming at least 30 others were also experiencing the same ordeal for reasons unknown to him. He does not know what has happened to them.

Tharmendran has been charged with company director Rajandran Prasad Kusy over the theft of two F-5E engines at the air movement section of the Subang air force base in December 2007.

If found guilty on charge under Section 380 of the Penal Code, he faces up to 10 years in jail and whipping.

Tharmendran can vividly recount every detail of the internal military investigation that he claims he was subjected to, as if it was just yesterday.

Tharmendran alleged that :

1. The favourite method of his interrogators - allegedly led by a major and his assistant, also a major - was to make him wear a crash helmet and repeatedly hit him as hard as possible. He told Malaysiakini:

   “They used a golf stick and something long like a cricket bat. The reason is that when you hit me with a helmet (on), there's no mark. You can't find any mark, but the pain is internal pain.
   
   That's what Major (name withheld) told me. (He said) 'I can hit you how hard I want, but there won't be any mark. Even (if) you go to the doctor he will say you only have (a) headache'.'”

   And because of the physical abuse, Tharmendran said he suffered severe pain in his neck and shoulders and was barely move his left arm for a few days after the interrogation ended.
   
   
2. He also claimed that he was repeatedly stripped to his underwear, made to stand on a block of ice for up to an hour at a time, and threatened with death.He said,

   “I was told by this major, he has friends in the UTK (special forces) and KDN (Home Ministry) and it won't take him much time to get some men to shoot and kill me.
   
   Another thing he said was that nobody would believe me (if I report the torture), because he is the IO (investigating officer) and he has the authority.
   
   He said that, even if I go to the hospital and say I was being tortured by these people, he said nobody would believe me.”
   

   
   
3. Tharmendan said he was not allowed to contact anyone to inform them of his whereabouts during the three weeks of his detention.

His father N Nagarajah filed a police report last month to report Tharmendran's alleged torture while under military detention.

Tharmendran said he lost 20kg after being tortured and during the six months he was detained in the Sg Buloh Prison for not being able to post the initial bail of RM150,000 in connection with the charge.

Tharmendran said he is grateful for his release on reduced bail of RM50,000, but that adjusting to life after six months of detention is hard.

He expressed his gratitude to prison officers and warders who had taken care of him and helped him with his problems.

Now that he is back in society, Tharmendran said he needs to pick himself up and deal with the debt facing his family, who had to borrow money to post bail. He said,

“They (his family) were very happy to see me, but now I have to look for a job. I'm jobless now, and it doesn't matter what (kind of work)... I can do anything.

As long as I can get a job... I need to pay back whatever money my family borrowed. My mom's jewellery has all been pawned and it's not fair to my relatives.

I have to go and see my daughter, but I don't know how I am going to face (her). She's 12 years old. I'm divorced so she's living with my ex-wife in Ipoh,” he said.

I saw her last November during the school holidays. I used to get her for the holidays and she'll be with my mom for three weeks... I need to do a lot of explaining to her.”

He faces another charge of abetment under Section 109 of the Penal Code for allegedly collaborating with senior airman Mohamad Shukri Mohamad Yusop to steal the engines from the Sungai Besi air force base.

Mohamad Shukri was not charged with the theft and is likely to be one of the main prosecution witnesses.

On 20th February 2004, about three months after Abdullah Ahmad Badawi took over as Prime Minister of Malaysia, the IGP issued a ten-page press release.

In this press release the IGP confirmed that Buhary Seyed Abu Tahir or BSA Tahir was involved in the supply of nuclear centrifuges to Iran and Libya.

Basically, the purpose of this lengthy press release was to exonerate any Malaysian of this crime and to put the blame squarely on foreigners. And to reinforce this allegation, BSA Tahir was detained under the Internal Security Act.

But was this a cover-up?

This was the 'public statement' by the Malaysian police.

Later we shall see the ‘not public’ Home Ministry confidential report of what really happened and whether any Malaysians, in particular the 'First Family', were involved.

Who is financing you for your son's flying lessons? And we know you can’t afford to pay for them unless you are corrupted and are taking bribes. Once we start to korek where you are getting your money from, and how you can afford to pay for your very expensive lifestyle, then you pulak susah nanti.

Khairy Jamaluddin wants to declare war on me as well? Well, then bring it on, brader. One more word from Khairy and the shit is going to hit the fan. I will publish here in Malaysia Today the evidence of his family’s involvement in TERRORIST activities. These will be Home Ministry documents marked RAHSIA (SECRET) .

The US would probably be filing extradition papers against the Abdullah Ahmad Badawi ( ie Khairy's father-in-law) family rather than Malaysia filling extradition papers against RPK.

The trouble is, these Umno types think that they are above the law and that they can impose their will on anyone they so wish regardless of the law.

As I said in my ‘coming out’ speech last month: come and get me here in the UK.

Here in the UK we have a level playing field. You can’t keep moving the goalposts halfway through the game like you do in Malaysia.

Now that they can’t get me they are trying to intimidate and frighten my friends. They hope that by frightening those who still keep in touch with me they can isolate me. And in the event I depend on these people for my financial support I can now be squeezed.

They are also trying to intimidate the lawyers. They want the Inland Revenue Department to investigate the lawyers to see where their money comes from and whether they have declared this income and paid taxes on it. Maybe they think that since the only way the US government could nail Al Capone was through tax evasion then they might as well try this on the lawyers and see what happens.

Hey, no need to investigate the lawyers. The lawyers are not paying for private investigator P. Balasubramaniam’s expenses here in London. I am, together with Deepak Jaikishan who has given Bala RM750,000 thus far.

In fact, I paid for Bala’s expenses in cash and in front of not only all the lawyers but with a few other witnesses present as well.

I just wanted it on record that Raja Petra Kamarudin is paying for Bala’s trip to London and Paris -- so no need to harass anyone else.

Anyway, even if other people are paying Bala and/or me money, so what? That is NOT a crime.

Even if they meet me (and/or Bala) here in London, that is also not a crime. What’s that I hear? I am a fugitive Blogger?

Hello, when was I ever convicted of any crime? There are not even any charges hanging over my head. I have already been discharged not amounting to an acquittal lah, brader!

The police said that the court has issued two warrants of arrest against me. For what crime? What are the charges? They also said they have asked Interpol to look for me. A manhunt has been launched, they say. Is that so?

Well, I spoke to Interpol and they said: no such thing.

And if you need to confirm this then GO HERE.

A check with Scotland Yard revealed the same thing. So what manhunt? What arrest warrant? What fugitive Blogger are they talking about?

So why is it wrong, therefore, for anyone to meet me here in the UK? And what is wrong even if they give me money?

Malaysian Police Hacked into Raja Petra's Email

The so-called documents, which MP Zahrain Hashim said he has given the authorities, are actually details of my e-mail that they broke into. They then doctored the e-mail to ‘prove’ that some people are giving me money.

Firstly, hacking my e-mail is a crime. Secondly, doctoring my e-mail to fabricate evidence against me is a crime. So who is the criminal here? Me, or Zahrain and his handlers in Bukit Aman?

And what is Zahrain doing playing footsies with Bukit Aman anyway? They gave him the contents of my e-mail, which have been doctored. Then he hands the documents back to the police as if he somehow came across them by accident and is now giving them to the police as evidence. Main wayang. Kerja budak sekolah.

Sure, print out my e-mail. Use that as ‘evidence’ against me. Then explain how you managed to hack my e-mail to procure this so-called ‘evidence’.

I will file an official complaint with GOOGLE that the Malaysian government hacked my e-mail and has openly admitted doing so.

Najib Govt's Reign of Terror : Badrul Hisham aka Chegubard Arrested by Police

PKR supreme council member Badrul Hisham Shaharin has been detained by police for allegedly posting a seditious remark on his blog regarding the Yang DiPertuan Agong and the royal institution.

Badrul Hisham, popularly known as Chegubard was arrested between 8.30pm and 9pm last night at the state PKR headquarters in Rahang to facilitate investigations over the posting on chegubard.blogspot.com, which was made last month.

Negeri Sembilan PKR secretary Sabaruddin Mohd Yassin said Badrul Hisham, more popularly known as Chegubard, was reported to have been called out of the meeting he was attending at 9pm by about 15 police officers and taken away for questioning.

According to the police, Badrul Hisham was questioned on blog postings relating to seditious remarks involving the king and the royal institution. The police also conducted a search of his house.

"I'm not sure what they were looking for, but they did not take anything. They however took a few photos of my work area," he told Malaysiakini.

"He was arrested because the police had received complaints from the public that he had allegedly posted seditious remarks on the king and the royal institution," he said.

Osman added that Badrul Amin was cooperative when giving his statements, and that the police will continue to investigate the claims.

It was learnt that police detained Badrul Hisham over the content of his blog posting and ceramah regarding the murder of Altantuya.

Badrul Hisham, who is also the author of “DiSebalik Misteri Pembunuhan Altantunya”, is being investigated under the Sedition Act.

Late last month, he had in his posting openly wondered if Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak had been “coerced” by Singapore’s secret service into agreeing to the Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) land swap deal. He had speculated that the Singapore’s secret service may have used photographs of Altantuya with Najib to threaten the premier into sealing a lopsided deal over the KTMB Tanjung Pagar issue.

Badrul Hisham said his suspicions were based on private investigator P Balasubramaniam’s statutory declaration on July 1, 2008, in which he stated that Najib was introduced to Altantunya, who was also known as “Aminah”, by his political adviser Abdul Razak Baginda at a diamond exhibition in Singapore.

'I didn't insult royalty'

Meanwhile, a source close to him said Badrul Hisham had not discounted the possibility that the arrest was instigated by a relative of Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Mohamad Hasan, who is also an Umno Youth member, over another earlier blog posting titled “Warkah Terbuka Kepada DYMM Seri Paduka Baginda Yang Di Pertuan Agong :'hepi besday, sir!”

The posting on June 10 touched on the roles and responsibility of the royal institution towards the rakyat.

Meanwhile, when met by FMT after he was released, CheguBard denied that he has insulted the royalty.

"There is no such thing that I insulted the King and the Sultan of Johor. I have the highest respect for the Malay rulers. The article I wrote had nothing to do with the rulers,” he said.

He accused Umno of “purposely manipulating the article to exact political revenge on me as I have been very critical of Negri Sembilan Umno and its chief (Mohamad) .I also believe this action against me is possibly due to political pressure from the Umno leadership relating to my visit to Indonesia recently." .

CheguBard added that he was in Jakarta to attend a forum to discuss the content of his book “DiSebalik Misteri Pembunuhan Altantunya”. He was also there to attend a meeting of the Youth Non-Government Organisation of Indonesia and the Southeast Asia Youth round table conference.

He returned home yesterday.

“Anyway, I gave my fullest cooperation to the police and I'm aware they are just doing their duty,” he said.

Badrul Hisham was released under police bail at about 11.30pm.

Badrul Hisham contested the Rembau parliamentary seat in the 2008 general elections but lost to Khairy Jamaluddin, now Umno Youth chief.

The Tribulations of a Malaysian-on-a-Run Wanting to Tell the Truth About Govt Cover-ups on Altantuya's Murder


On July 7, 2008, private eye P Balasubramaniam marked his wedding anniversary as he was interviewed by police officers for about six to seven hours at the Malaysian embassy in Bangkok.

Last Tuesday, he celebrated his anniversary, this time being interviewed at a press conference in the United Kingdom capital London, this time under far more relaxed circumstances. The supporting cast and the location may have changed, but the focus remained the same.

Yet what has often been relegated to a footnote has been the tribulations of the man himself.

Balasubramaniam's lawyer, Americk Sidhu said,

"Everybody's focusing on the murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu and who's behind it.

There's another issue here which is equally important, and that is the way Balasubramaniam was treated after he released his first statutory declaration on the July 3, 2008.

He was immediately apprehended, bribed, cajoled, threatened and removed from Malaysia."

The video of Balasubramaniam's interview in Singapore last November, conducted by three of his lawyers, gave lengthy details about his experience starting from July 3, 2008.

Among the chilling allegations made by Balasubramaniam were the words said to him by Nazim Abdul Razak (left), a younger brother of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, during a meeting near The Curve in Damansara on the night after he released his first statutory declaration (SD):

"If you love your family, just follow what Deepak (Jaikishan) tells you to do."

This kicked off a whirlwind journey for Balasubramaniam that had him hurriedly retracting his first SD with a second SD, his children getting new passports, a van shipping him and his family straight to Singapore's Changi Airport where he boarded a plane to Bangkok - all within 24 hours.

After the interview by, oddly enough, commercial crime police officers, he flew to Kathmandu with his family, then to New Delhi and finally settling in Chennai, India, where he stayed for over a year. His expenses were said to be funded by the shadowy and politically well-connected businessman, Deepak Jaikishan.

Balasubramaniam now believes that the likelihood of him returning to Malaysia is slim.

"If I go back to Malaysia, I'll have a room in Kamunting waiting for me," he said. "I can't go back. They will silence me, or they will put me in Kamunting for nine to 10 years."

Balasubramaniam feels his only hope for a return to the normal life he enjoyed back home is with a change in government. "I don't want these corrupt Umnoputras to be in Malaysia. I need the government to change."

In the Singapore interview, Balasubramaniam claimed that "Deepak said I can come back to Malaysia after Najib becomes PM."

This became untenable when Balasubramaniam insisted he wanted the truth of his testimony as a witness in the Altantuya murder case to be revealed.

Bala Had to Avoid Security Harassment to Return to Malaysia

How he and his family emerged from an imposed silence in Chennai to a public (and globe-trotting) reaffirmation of his first SD depended on one moment of providence.

"The turning point was Deepak giving me back my passport (in February 2009)," Balasubramaniam told Malaysiakini after Tuesday's press conference in London.

As his visa in India had expired, Balasubramaniam threatened to kick a fuss at the Malaysian High Commission in India. Deepak relented, and with his passport in hand, Balasubramaniam had a plan in mind.

On July 19, 2009, he called Americk, who was in Wales, UK, at the time. On Americk's advice, Balasubramaniam went to Kuala Lumpur on July 28 to meet the lawyer.

This he achieved through a long route - flying from Chennai to Bangkok and then to Hat Yai. From there, motorbike ride took him through Bukit Kayu Hitam, one of Malaysia's many notoriously porous northern border checkpoints, where one can zip through without immigration scrutiny.

He made his way to Kuala Lumpur where he called Dinesh Jaikishan, brother of Deepak, to say that he was in Malaysia purely to meet his family, who had returned home earlier.

Balasubramaniam's tactic here in being open about his visit was as a way to assure the Jaikishan brothers that he did not have any ulterior motive. He spent 10 days in Kuala Lumpur, conferring with Americk before returning to Chennai through the same route he had used to get to Kuala Lumpur.

Special Branch Stopped Bala at KLIA

In October 2009, Balasubramaniam came back to Malaysia again, this time with the intention of taking his family to Chennai. On the advice of Americk, he flew straight to KL International Airport (KLIA), because he wanted to "test" if his passport would be flagged. It was.

"SB (Special Branch) officers came running towards me," said Balasubramaniam. "They took me to their office (at KLIA). I thought they would put me in Kamunting."

But he made a call to Deepak, and when the Special Branch officers called their superiors, they were told to let him go.

After about another 10 days in Kuala Lumpur, Balasubramaniam left Malaysia for India. His family followed him on another flight a few days later.

While he admits that the danger of being 'silenced' is ever present, Balasubramaniam feels safe in Chennai where, his lawyers joke, "half the people there look like him".

But he rubbishes claims he is in hiding. "I don't consider myself as a fugitive. What wrong have I done?"

As for his expenses, Balasubramaniam said he has been living with RM750,000 in funds he eceived from Deepak for over a year since July 2008. "I flew here (London) with Deepak's money," he said.

The cost of holding the press conference and his hotel stay was paid for by donations from supporters. Americk said there wasn't one single personality or party financing the London exercise.

Balasubramaniam insists that his actions, immediately after he issued the first SD, were guided by a concern for his family. "I can't be bought," he said.

Now that he feels more assured about the safety of his family, Balasubramaniam is motivated by another concern: "I want the truth to come out... MACC not turning up shows that it does not want the truth to prevail."

The ghost of murdered Mongolian model and translator Altantuya Shaariibuu refuses to lie quiet.

For the Malaysian government of prime minister Najib Tun Razak a line appeared to have been drawn under the sordid and politically explosive affair when two of his bodyguards from his days as defence minister were convicted last year of the young woman's murder in the jungle outside Kuala Lumpur in October 2006.

But in the last few weeks two events have revived simmering questions about the connection of the murder to a $1.2 billion contract to buy two French Scorpene-class diesel submarines ordered while Najib was defence minister.

Najib's friend and adviser on defence matters, Abdul Razak Baginda, whose wife's company was paid a questionable $150 million over the submarine contract, had recently brought a love affair with Shaariibuu to an acrimonious end when she was abducted and murdered.

During the months' long trial of the two police bodyguards every effort was made to ensure prime minister Najib's name didn't figure in evidence.

And in a move that astonished legal experts, the judge early on in the trial exonerated Baginda of any responsibility. He promptly fled to Britain where he remains.

The stage management of the trial convinced Malaysian human rights groups that it would be pointless to try to resolve the Shaariibuu case in the senior courts in Kuala Lumpur.

One of those Malaysian human rights groups, Suaram, has therefore pressed for a judicial inquiry in France, where there are a number of investigations underway of the notorious willingness of state-owned defence companies to pay bribes or other inducements in order to gain arms contracts.

In this case Parisian prosecutors started inquiries in March focusing on the $150 million paid to a Malaysian company called Perimekar, which was set up just before Najib signed in 2002 the deal to buy the two Scorpene submarines from the French state-owned shipbuilder DCN.

Perimekar was ostensibly hired to provide "coordination and support services" for the contract, but no evidence has been produced to show the company had the skills for such tasks or ever attempted to perform them.

Perimekar is a wholly-owned subsidiary of a company called KS Ombak Laut Sdn Bhd., whose principal shareholder is lawyer Mazalinda Baginda, the wife of prime minister Najib's friend and adviser Razak Baginda.

Shaariibuu, 28 at the time of her death, had learned French when she was a model in Paris and there is evidence she acted as translator for her paramour Baginda during his negotiations with DCN over the submarines on behalf of Najib and the Malaysian government.

Malaysian authorities have responded to the move by French prosecutors to investigate DCN and particularly its submarine-manufacturing subsidiary Armaris, for possible corruption and paying kickbacks by insisting nothing is wrong.

A spokesman for prime minister Najib said recently the French prosecutors have the right to investigate, "but for us, there is no case to answer." He added that the deal was entirely free of corruption.

Exactly why Shaariibuu was murdered by Najib's bodyguards has never been entirely resolved, despite the long trial and 45 witnesses.

By some accounts, after Baginda jilted her, the young woman and a friend launched several noisy demonstrations outside Baginda's house.

Baginda reportedly went to Najib's chief of staff, Musa Safri, and asked for help in keeping the young woman away from his home.

As a result, the two police bodyguards, Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri and Corporal Sirul Azhar Umar, abducted Shaariibuu during one of her demonstrations, took her to the jungle outside the capital and shot her.

But they then used military C4 explosives to blow up the body in an apparent attempt to foil identification, though this act has, of course, led to speculation that Shaariibuu was pregnant.

But in a letter written by Shaariibuu and discovered after her death -a letter never produced in evidence -she indicated she was trying to blackmail Baginda for $500,000 to keep quiet about the details of the $150 million paid to his wife's company, Perimekar.

There have also been suggestions that Shaariibuu knew details of the many other arms purchases made in the military equipment buildup overseen by Najib while he was defence minister from 2002 to 2008.

These deals include the purchase of Sukhoi supersonic fighter jet aircraft from Russia and of a small fleet of coastal defence vessels.

As well as Malaysian human rights organizations, Shaariibuu's parents have been adamant that there has been no real justice for their murdered daughter.

With the stage-managed criminal trial now done, Shaariibuu's father and mother have tried to bring a civil suit seeking compensation for her death against Baginda and the two convicted policemen.

In a strange move, Malaysia's High Court in March ordered the family to make a security deposit of the equivalent of $20,000 for the case to be heard by the Court of Appeal and potentially to continue to the Federal Court.

The family was distraught, saying it could not raise such a sum.

But last week The Mongolian government announced it will put up the security bond demanded by the Malaysian court so the case can be heard, though at this point it seems more likely that Shaariibuu's ghost will get justice in Paris rather than Kuala Lumpur.

On Record: First Hand Account of PI Bala's Press Conference in London on the Altantuya Murder Case

Americk kicked off the press conference by telling the assembly that this whole thing started when the PKR Youth leader, Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, lodged a report with Malaysia’s Anti-Corruption Commission or MACC soon after private investigator P. Balasubramaniam’s video interview was released on Youtube (see below).

MACC’s response to Shamsul Iskandar’s report was that they would like to meet Bala to record his statement. However, MACC does not know how to get in touch with Bala so they would like to seek the assistance of Shamsul Iskandar in contacting him (Bala).

On reading this statement by MACC, Americk sent MACC an e-mail to inform them that he is the lawyer acting on behalf of Bala and if they need to meet him (Bala) to record his statement then he (Americk) would help arrange it.

MACC replied by saying that they are not prepared to deal though an ‘unofficial’ e-mail and that all communications must be by way of official letter only. Americk then wrote an official letter offering to arrange the meeting between Bala and MACC so that they could record his statement.

Many months were spent haggling over the venue, date and terms of the meeting. Finally, after ding-donging to-and-fro, it was agreed that the meeting between Bala and MACC would be held in the Holiday Villa in London on the 5th and 6th July 2010. MACC said that they would like to make the arrangements for the meeting room in the Holiday Villa London.

However, no booking was made for any meeting room in the Holiday Villa London. Americk then wrote to the Holiday Villa to make the booking on behalf of the MACC and he also told the MACC this. Meanwhile, the lawyers and Bala had already made flight arrangements and hotel bookings so that they could be present in London at least a couple of days before the meeting with MACC on 5th July.

On Thursday, MACC sent Americk an e-mail saying that they would not be coming after all. This was after they had confirmed they would be coming. In fact, they even told the mainstream media that not only would three officers be sent to London but that Bala’s lawyers could be present in the meeting as well.

The problem was, by then, most had already arrived in London and those who were yet to arrive were already in the plane on the way to London. And the reason MACC gave for aborting the meeting was that they could not record a witness’s statement outside Malaysia, as it would not be admissible in court.

As what Manjeet told the assembly, not only is this not true, but in fact there is a provision in the Act that specifically states MACC can record statements of witnesses outside Malaysia. Furthermore, MACC would have surely done their research before asking to meet Bala, knowing that the meeting was going to be held outside Malaysia.

Bala’s lawyers could not accept this excuse as a legitimate reason for aborting the meeting.

What MACC said is NOT true.

In fact, it is opposite to what MACC said.

Dear Mr. Zahrain,

First let’s try and get things in perspective.

You were elected as a Member of Parliament by a majority of voters in your constituency who agreed with and who supported the manifesto of the party whom you represented at that time. This means a majority of the voters in your constituency wanted the opposition to represent them. They did not want the Barisan Nasional to represent them.

This is as simply as I can put it. It is not really a very complicated matter to digest so please try and persevere.

Instead, you have betrayed the trust your supporters placed in you by abandoning all the principles you stood for and supporting the Barisan Nasional instead. You did this without first asking the majority of voters in your constituency permission to do so.

The excuse that you are a BN friendly independent MP does not detract from the fact that you have abandoned the voters who elected you to represent them by disregarding their wishes and aspirations for a better nation and future.

Let me tell you what an honourable man would have done. An honourable man would have vacated his seat and requested the electorate in his constituency to decide whether they would still support him even though he had betrayed them.

This you did not do, so in my book you are a dishonourable man.

You are now a Member of Parliament under false pretences.

You shouldn’t really be there because a Member of Parliament should be someone with integrity and honour, besides being legitimately elected by a majority of voters in that constituency.

As a dishonourable member of Parliament under false pretences who has betrayed the electorate he represents, I do not feel you are in a position moral or otherwise, to sanctimoniously criticize the actions of your past fellow ‘brothers-in-arms’ at the same time hiding behind the unholy alliance you have created for yourself with, what most right thinking members of Malaysian society consider to be, the devil incarnate.

Furthermore, the comments you have made regarding the ‘trap’ set by PKR’s political games for the MACC borders on the ludicrous.

It is the MACC’s job to interview Mr. P. Balasubramaniam.

No one had set a ‘trap’ for them. They are the Maha Gurus of entrapment, not us. They are the ones who said they wanted to interview Mr. P. Balasubramaniam. We, as Bala’s lawyers did everything we could to assist them. This had nothing to do with PKR.

Just because the evidence Bala has may affect a leader of your newfound alliance does not mean it is an opposition-concocted story.

It is a story begun by your NEW buddies, not Bala.

From your praise of the MACC pulling out of the London interview at the last moment, I can only derive from this an assumption that you are hell bent on collaborating with those who are intent on perverting the course of justice or obstructing it.

I cannot see any other reason for the comment you have made.

You have then gone on to make some serious accusations directly affecting my integrity as a professional by blatantly implying that I have prepared a script for Bala to regurgitate to the investigative authorities.

I hope you have concrete proof of these accusations because if you don’t you are going to look even more silly than you are at the moment.

You appear to know more about my political inclinations and my relationship with Anwar Ibrahim than I do. I am not sure where you have obtained your information from but I would suggest you look for an alternative source, as it is not very effective.

I wish to inform you that I am unfortunately NOT a PKR member, but I must confess, due to the unfolding of events over the past few days I have been seriously considering becoming one.

Your inane comments have now prompted me to take the plunge. Thank you.

You have to be a little demented to think that Zaid and Anwar ought to share the responsibility of persuading RPK and Bala to return to Malaysia to “face up to anyone” as established past precedence indicates that anyone regarded as an embarrassing pest to the powers that be should expect to have two bullets embedded in their respective heads and their mortal remains distributed amongst the belukar in some secondary jungle with the aid of military grade explosives.

RPK and Bala are not fools.

Finally, Zahrain, when you and your new found colleagues find time to extricate your heads from the sand in which they are firmly ensconced, you may realise that the average Malaysian is no longer a fool with a penchant to assimilate political garbage without question.

It is a shame you were not present at the launch of ‘Friends of Pakatan Rakyat’ in London last Sunday. It would have been an eye opener for you, as it was for me.

I now realise that there are a significant number of Malaysians who have a shared desire to see all the wrongs of the past be put right and the most enlightening aspect of that launch was the support shown by Malaysians of all races and backgrounds.

And this is the Malaysia everyone wants.

Not the Malaysia you and your friends have slowly destroyed with your self-serving avarice.

Former PKR MP Datuk Zahrain Mohd Hashim said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission should not allow itself to be drawn into a political trap by the party by going to London to interview private investigator (PI) P. Balasubramaniam.

The MACC need not waste money and time to interview him over his conspiracy claim behind the murder of Mongolian woman Altantuya Shaariibuu, he said in a statement.

“Hence, MACC should cease all attempts to interview Bala­subramaniam in London,” the independent Bayan Baru MP added.

“He will not be revealing anything except those scripts prepared by his lawyers. All the lawyers are known to be closely linked to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. We might as well get the scripts of Balasubraminiam’s testimony directly from the PKR head office at Tropicana Square and save time and money,” said Zahrain.

He said the public is smart enough to know that PKR is trying hard to implicate the Prime Minister with Altantuya’s murder by using Raja Petra Kamaruddin and Balasubramaniam, often referred to simply as PI Bala.

It was earlier reported that MACC had fixed July 5 to July 7 to record the statement abroad.

However, following advice from the Attorney-General’s Chambers, MACC deputy commissioner Datuk Mohd Shukri Abdul said the commission would only list down the questions for the investigator to answer in the form of an affidavit.

China executed on Wednesday former Chief Justice of Chongqing, Wen Qiang.

Wen Qiang was sentenced to death in April this year for protecting gangs, bribery, rape and "property scamming", according to state media, People's Daily.

Chongqing courts have sentenced dozens of people to death or long jail terms over the past several months as part of the crackdown in the sprawling city of more than 30 million.

The campaign was marked by graphic tales of murder and extortion committed by cops-turned-robbers, as citizens besieged government offices waving bloody photos and swords allegedly used by the gangs.

The trials were initially popular with the media and the public, who are fed up with police corruption and crime, but the rush to judgment has concerned some in the Chinese legal community.

Some citizens in Chongqing told Reuters last week that the campaign has gone a little too far, ensnaring small players with excessive punishment.

The deep ties between police and organised crime hark back to China's tumultuous years before the Communist Party won power in 1949, when local warlords and rich businessmen had close connections with the criminal underworld.

As part of a pilot initiative to curb corruption among law-keepers, Chongqing municipality's Party committee will direct all senior judges, prosecutors and police officers to reveal their assets. The Chongqing Municipality has 30 million residents.

The move follows the detention of more than 200 government officials, including judges, prosecutors and police, on charges of accepting bribes from organized gangs to protect them.

According to the local procuratorate, 19 top departmental officials, such as governors of districts, have been implicated for protecting criminal gangs from January to September this year.

In addition, more than 200 officials from public security bureaus, courts and procuratorates, who failed to crack down on gangs and protected them instead, have been detained since June.

The accused include:

1. former director of Chongqing Justice Bureau, Wen Qiang, 56;
   
   
2. former deputy director of the municipal public security bureau, Peng Changjian, 46;
   
   
3. deputy chief justice of the Chongqing Higher People's Court, Zhang Tao; and
   
   
4. ex-director of the enforcement bureau of the municipal higher people's court, Wu Xiaoqing, 57, who committed suicide in a local detention house last weekend.Wu had allegedly received bribes amounting to 3.5 million yuan ($512,700) and HK$100,000 ($12,900) between 1998 and 2008. He was also unable to explain where he had obtained another 5.18 million yuan, a spokesman for the local government said.
   

Liu Xinyong, former deputy Party Secretary of Chongqing's Fengdu county, and another three local officials were also accused of accepting bribes worth more than 10 million yuan each.

Chongqing citizens are in favor of the government's initiative to uproot corruption from officialdom, but also skeptical about the solution.

The Meaning of Strong, Determined and Serious Leadership

We trivialize things when we say; we shouldn't believe what the opposition says because they are opposition.

This line of thinking means, as the opposition, they will always lie about facts and the truth. Opposition is driven by one aim- that of denigrating its opponents.

How valid is such a proposition?

If it's true, then whatever UMNO says in Kelantan, Penang, Kedah, WP, Selangor and even Perak, should not be believed at all. They are drivel. Why? Because in these places they (BN) ARE the opposition. And opposition will always politicize facts and truth and that they are twisted and demented people.

What do we have then? We have a political Mexican standoff. We can't move because to do so would place us at disadvantage.

The reasons why we are at this stage are because we did not address the issue head-on when it was a minor problem.

When Balasubarmaniam surfaced and talked about how the carpet seller Deepak and the PM's brother corrupted him by offering RM 5 million, everyone says that was just a lie.

He was even able to produce a cheque or something, how did we refute that? We refuted it dismissively saying it was not true and it's all a fabrication and a figment of the imagination of a heinous person.

No one took up the issue seriously. The person most affected by the allegation, the PM repeated a mere statement saying that it was a lie.

What would a serious leader do?

He would haul the person alleging a very serious thing to court and have the court deal with the accuser and liar seriously.

At the very least, sue the accuser for defamation or something.

Get hold of the carpet seller and charge him in court for abetting people out to defame and overthrow a legitimate PM and his government. Maybe even a charge of treason punishable by death. The allegations brought by this Bala are not a walk in the park which can be treated in a most cavalier and dismissive manner.

We shouldn't be dismissive about things such as this. Bala's allegations should be confronted with our own clear and firm denial. The veracity can only be established by an independent team of verifier and adjudicator.

Wrong move number one.

We should fire the PM's advisors.

In the United States, a sitting president would be impeached and testimony taken from him. That is the only way to exonerate him or to have him removed.

Our objective should be to prove that what Bala and his conspirators say are untruths. The facts and stories they produced must be matched by equally convincing refuting facts and story. It's never sufficient and much less convincing to brush them off by saying these are just politically motivated stories.

Wrong move number two?

By repeating this defective manufactured story linking what Bala or RPK want to say as machinations of the opposition and therefore they MUST be lies.

Fire your stupid minister or ministers who suggest this storyline because of a perceived link between RPK and Bala and PKR, then these are all lies.

Why should anyone be prevented from meeting up with RPK? He hasn't committed any crime and if he has, then the long arms of the law should be sufficient to bring him back. The inability of our own law enforcing agency to bring him back from UK would suggest that we have not got sufficient standing to have RPK extradited.

We haven't got a case against him. If we have, then the UK law enforcing agency must be the stupidest in the world for not working alongside to enforce valid laws.

This the Home Minister hasn't answered but he is busy telling stories about the link between RPK and PKR.

Probably some UMNO people will even say, these people are the same because the syllables in their names are the same.

What's so saddening about allowing the MACC to go to London and expose the vicious lies and innuendos that this Bala is doing?

And we can also expose the possibility that RPK and Zaid and PKR are the people behind the plot to overthrow the legitimate government through an extra judicial means.

We need a strong, determined and serious leadership.
