Datuk Sukri Mohamed, YOU Are Wrong !

Bernama reported: Kelantan Justices of the Peace Council president Datuk Sukri Mohamed said he had studied the 12-page speech text by the Kelantan Tengku Mahkota and found that DAP chairman Karpal Singh and MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting had misconstrued the speech for their political ends.

"The speech was taken out of context aimed at worsening the situation so that non-Malays become angry with the monarchy institution," he said yesterday.

Sukri said the Tengku Mahkota had stressed the need for Malay unity in the context of a plural society and did not touch on the rights of non-Malays.

We Say

The speech by Kelantan Tengku Mahkota was political, certainly unwarranted from a second-in-line to the throne.

No amount of spin will turn around the fact that the speech is racially-prejudiced and laced with racial undertones that when read in its totality, divides rather than unites the nation.

The Tengku Mahkota should have use his better discretion than to agree to verbalise the words of the text of the speech given to him at the forum by the organisers in Barisan Bertindak Perpaduan Melayu .

Monarch's Advice Should Reflect Fairness: Sultan Azlan Shah Says

Excerpts: Read here for more

Speaking at the investiture ceremony to mark his 80th birthday at the Balairong Seri in Istana Iskandariah here, the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Azlan Shah noted that every citizen, regardless of religion, race, sex or political inclination, should be treated FAIRLY.

He also said that the importance of the state and the people should take precedence above politics.

Although the monarchy would act based on the advice of the head of government, the monarch should NOT agree if the advice given did not reflect fairness, he said.

"Based on constitutional monarchy, the role of royalty is to give advice and views, to encourage and to remind," he said, adding that when giving their approval, a ruler should use their WISDOM.

Earlier in his speech, the Regent of Perak Raja Dr Nazrin Shah said a pre-requisite to political stability in the country was to UNITED the people and do away with negative thoughts among the various races.

"Malaysia must NOT allow discrimination to take place nor racism to take root," he said. Read here for more

Titah baginda:

Pak Lah: The Fate of a Man Worthy of Our Adulation

by

"Maverick SM"

I would not be sad nor be sympathetic towards Pak Lah if he was driven-down to the abyss, being dumped and stoned by his own Umno members, because he brought it unto himself the outcome and thus should be brave to face the consequences.

He was a good man and was made by Heaven to be a good prime minister.

When the bastion was passed to him by Dr Mahathir on 1st Nov 2003, he gave the nation great hope and a strong sense of belief that they would be seeing the daylight after being inside the tunnel of darkness under the Mahathir regime beginning from 1981.

During Mahathir's time, money politics was born in wedlock and the system began manufacturing greedy cadres led by Daim who spearhead the gravy train ride with a group of selected pedigrees.

At this (Mahathir) era of authoritarianism:

  • The monarchy lost its immunity and the Sultans were derogated to be mere rubberstamps.

  • The efficacious judiciary system was blasted, crushed and replaced by nose-chained judges.

  • The constitution was amended so many times to suit the convenience needed and executive power was made superior over the supreme constitution.

  • New laws were enacted to circumvent constitutional provisions of rights of liberty, freedom and equality.

  • The use of ISA becomes a necessity at all times, and was made indispensable to judicial review even by the highest court of justice, and

  • OSA was enacted to provide cover to informations that are obnoxious to the public.
  • When Pak Lah took over, the people were much relieved as if a tyrant had died.

Pak Lah gave the people a lot of hope that all those injustice, inequality and unfair laws and rules would be rectified and he gave the rakyat high aspiration to see a new beginning where all Malaysians would no more be divided by skin color and that we can expect a clean government, free from corruption, a clean and efficient police force, the restoration of the judiciary and to put in place a justice system which hold steadfast to the rule of law and natural justice.

The first thing he did when he came into power was to suspend and scrapped all those mega projects that are not beneficial to the people or those that are tainted with cronyism and nepotism. Double-track Railway project, Putrajaya Monorail project, Penang 2nd Bridge, Johor Crooked Bridge, Dedicated Highway, West-coast Highway, and many other projects were scrapped or suspended.

He preached and acted in frugality, making efforts to reduce national debts and appointed professionals to take charge of various ministries.

Pak Lah went further to inculcate Islamic-virtuous values of equality among all races ("I am a PM for all races), liberty for all ("I welcome criticisms"), "Work with me and not for me" (cooperation, not connection), "Walk your talk" (performance and productivity), "Cakap Tak Serupa Bikin" (he admonished the arrogant Nazri Aziz for challeging the deputy ACA chief).

Pak Lah even did NOT allow his son-in-law to become the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Khazanah to avoid any misrepresentation or questionable behaviors of a good leader. Khairy was upset and resign from being the PM's special assistant.

But it didn't take long and the good work and virtues didn't last. Endon passed away; his life changed and he began to be surrounded by his son, daughter and son-in-law.

    Photobucket

There were a good number of special intellectual advisors and financial experts who began to provide the creative wisdom to his children. The names include K, P, V, V, L, T, etc, etc. These wise men were corporate raiders, information disseminators and spin doctors, match-makers, law-reforming breakers, Oh Kui Tau, and pilot owners.

Thus, the 4th Floor Decemvirs were installed and thereon gave rise the new oligarchy who served abjectly and domineered haughtily. Power and authority exercised by the decemvirs were out of all proportion greater than that entrusted. All projects would now have to be screened and approved at the discretions of decemvirs. The treasury and the EPU, and the finance minister would submit reports and recommendations for consent. Even chief ministers and menteri besars have to kow-tow and sembah these tuan-ku.

Those who refuse to pay homage and sembah tuan-ku would pay the price. Mahathir's children, Mukhriz and Mokhzani suffered; they lost some projects awarded during Mahathir's time, just before he retired.

This infuriate the grand-master who then started his own crusade to destroy the Abdullah dynasty. The crooked bridge was used as an insignia to mount the agenda.

Thus, the showdown began with many episodes. Mahathir was relentless and determined to fight the battle to waterloo. He tried hard, failed, tried again, failed again, and tried again and again. He knows he will eventually meet his nemesis at the waterloo or his own. Three heart bypass won't stop him.

However, all Umno leaders and many members always stood firm backing their incumbent. Loyalty and support were aplenty for Pak Lah so long as the generals of this army of bigoted backers and their coterie get to ride the gravy train and enjoy the spoils. Many others jumped into the bandwagon and we watched the resurrection of Ali and Baba with the 40 thieves.

It is ancient knowledge that he who sets up as a tyrant and slays not Brutus, and he who creates a free government and slays not the sons of Brutus, can never maintain himself long.

Wise men had taught the princes of old that they ought never out of regard for what is good, to suffer an evil to run its course, since it may well happen that the evil will prevail over the good.

Pak Lah was misled by a pre-conceived opinion, and failed to understand that ill-will is not to be vanquished by time nor propitiated by favours. And so, from not knowing how to resemble Brutus, he lost power, and fame, and is now being driven to insanity, soon to live in exile.

But where men are weak, Fortune shows herself strong; and because she changes, States and Government changes with her; and will continue to change, until some one arise, who, following reverently the examples of the ancients, shall so control her, that she shall not have opportunity with every revolution of the sun to display anew the greatness of her power.

Pak Lah did not understand that Fortune obscures the minds of Men when she would not have them hinder her Design.

If we note well the course of human affairs, we shall often find things come about and accidents befall, against which it seems to be the will of Heaven. In Titus Livius pregnant words where he says, that since it was Heaven's will, for ends of its own, that the Romans should feel its power, it first of all caused the Fabii, who were sent as envoys to the Gauls, to act amiss, and then by their misconduct stirred up the Gauls to make war on Rome, and so ordered matters that nothing worthy of their name was done by the Romans to withstand their attack.

Pak Lah also did not understand the danger of trusting those who were his "close-confidantes" and include those others who were previously banished into obscurity or in exile.

He partakes on their empty promises and delusive hopes which they set before him that he naturally believes many things which are untrue, and designedly misrepresent many others; so that between his beliefs and what they say they believe, they fill him with false impressions, on which he was led to engage in enterprises from which nothing but ruin resulted.

The past should have our reverence, the present our obedience, and that we should wish for good princes, but put up with any. For assuredly whosoever does otherwise is likely to bring ruin both on himself and on his country.

Now, after March 8, the table had turned, and Pak Lah found himself oblivious and obscured.

This is what his own people whom he loved and cared for, has this to tell him:

"Kami sayangkan Pak Lah. Tetapi kami lebih sayangkan Umno. Segerakan peralihan kuasa kepada Dato' Seri Najib & Tan Sri Muhyiddin."
    Daripada: Gabungan Ahli Umno Selangor

Umno of Johor, Kedah, Perak, and now Selangor have all began to betray their leader and have conspired to install a new leader. Men commonly deceive themselves in respect of the love which they imagine others bear them, nor can ever be sure of it until they have died with the loyalty intact. It is observed that the remedies resorted would accelerate the destruction of the institution itself.

Such would be the fate of a man who is worthy of our adulation had he not let himself be led into the corrupt affairs of the family members, friends and close-relations.

He failed to understand that one man, by art and measures, did easily prepare the ground for the universal corruption of a community. Wherefore that man had obtained absolute authority to amazed avalanche of wealth with the cooperation of the institutional body and of the States already corrupted, and corrupted by a gradual wasting continued from decade to decade.

In times of difficulty, true worth is sought after; whereas in quiet times it is not the most deserving, but those who are recommended by wealth or connection who are most in favor.

Nothing now is more useful and necessary for Pak Lah as to be able to see through the intentions and designs of his adversary.

Any one comparing the present with the past will soon perceive that in all nations there prevail the same desires as always have prevailed; for which reason it should be carefully examine past events to foresee those which are about to happen and to apply such remedies as the ancients have used in like cases; or to strike new ones, such as they might have used in similar circumstances.

But these lessons being neglected or unknown to him, it follows that the same disorders are common at all times.

The weak rulers are irresolute and undecided; and that the course he had taken depended more on necessity than choice.

Anyone who undertakes to control a people and does not make sure work with all who are hostile to his new institutions founds a government which cannot last long.

For to deal with a few adversaries only, can easily and without much or serious difficulty secure himself, he who has an entire people against him can never feel safe; and the greater the severity he uses the weaker his authority becomes; so that his best course is to strive to make the people his friends.

The prince who seeks to gain over an unfriendly people should first of all examine what it is the people really desire, and he will always find that they desire two things: first, to be revenged upon those who are the cause of their servitude; and second, to regain their freedom.

To effect a gradual reform requires a sagacious man who can discern mischief while it is still remote and in the germ.

    Start acting radically using VIRTUE:

    1. meet Salleh Abas and all those who were ruined by the tyrants;

    2. restore their integrity by openly apologising to them and to the whole nation;

    3. release those who were wrongfully detained or put them on trial;

    4. demolish the 4th floor and remove all tools of corruption;

    5. enact the IPCMC;

    6. declare a Malaysian supremacy encapsulating all citizens and pursue all the virtues as exalted by the Prophet with determination and dedication;

This will save you from being extinguished and extinction.

After a strong prince, a weak prince may maintain himself; but after one weak prince no kingdom can stand a second.

PAS Will NOT Be Trapped Again by UMNO's Desperate Incitement for "Ketuanan Melayu"

From Harakah: Read here and here

"There is NO problem with Malay supremacy.

The menteris besar are Malays, the prime minister is a Malay... there is nothing to worry about Malay supremacy.

We are not against Malay unity, but we will not be trapped again."

He was commenting on calls that PAS and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) get together with Umno to discuss the future of the Malays. Husam, who is also Salor Assemblyman, expressed doubts that Umno, PAS and PKR would achieve a common goal on the matter. Read here for more

    Excerpts:

Kenapa sekarang baru hendak membincangkan mengenai hal ketuanan Melayu?

Malays Under Threat ? WHAT THREAT ?

    by

    Azmi Sharom (Read here)
(Dr Azmi Sharom, is the Associate Professor of the Law Faculty of Universiti Malaya.)

Photobucket Since the recent general election, voices have risen up in a shrill warning cry that the MALAYS are now ‘under threat’.

But perhaps the REAL threat is the threat to Umno hegemony.

    AND so it begins.

Race-based rhetoric has raised its ugly little head in response to a democratic process.

Over 49% of the people of Malaysia have voted for parties that have REJECTED race-based affirmative action in favour of a NEEDS-based platform.

It did not take very long for voices, both common ( and read here and here and here ) and ROYAL (and here) , to rise up in a shrill warning cry that the Malays are now “under threat”.

“Under threat” from WHAT , may I ask?

Let’s take a bit of time to look at this so-called “THREAT”.
    1. Firstly, Malays are given special protection under Article 153 of the Constitution.
Article 153 is titled “Reservation of quotas in respect of services, permits, etc, for Malays and natives of any of the States of Sabah and Sarawak”. Article 152 states that Malay is the National Language. The Supreme Head of the Federation, according to Article 32, is the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, a Malay ruler. This is the foundation of Malay “special privileges”.

None of the Pakatan Rakyat component parties, including the DAP, have said anything about removing Articles 153, 152 and 32.

They remain safe and secure with NO sign whatsoever of any sort of threat.

Besides, in order to change it, you would need a two-thirds majority in the lower and upper houses of Parliament plus the support of the Conference of Rulers. The last time I checked, NO ONE has a two-thirds majority in the Dewan Rakyat.
    2. Secondly, due to simple demographics, it is unlikely that a totally NON-Malay party is ever going to win ABSOLUTE control of the government.
Of the five state governments in the hands of the Pakatan, four are led by a Malay Mentri Besar.

Penang is an exception, but Penang has been led by non-Malays since the 60s. Why was there was no outcry before this?
    3. Thirdly, the proposed doing-away with the NEP (or whatever it is called nowadays), I suppose, can be seen as a threat to the Malays. But how it can be a threat is beyond me.
(Simply) because the replacement suggested by the Pakatan is not some sort of laissez-faire capitalist economy. Instead, it is an economic system with affirmative action promised to those in need.

If the Malays are the largest group of people in Malaysia who are in the most need, then they will get the most help. If they are not in the most need, then why on earth do they need help then?
This is the point where I will get angry letters about how the NEP is needed; because in the business world – the real world which I know nothing about because I am just a lowly-academic trapped in my ivory tower – Malays are discriminated against by the Chinese. So we need a policy like the NEP to provide some balance.

    I disagree.

If there are racist business policies being conducted against the Malays, then you face it head on with anti-discrimination laws.

If some person feels he is being discriminated against, no matter what his race, then let there be a law to help him, and let us punish the racists with a hefty fine or jail term.

You do not meet racism with racism; you challenge it by destroying all traces of it.

The problem with the NEP is that it breeds a mentality of entitlement based on race and not merit. This mentality seeps into governance, and it creates an atmosphere of MEDIOCRITY.

Federal Constitution Provides Equality for All Races in Public Service

One example of this is how the Constitution has been disregarded in relation to employment issues.

The Federal Constitution states that you can set quotas at the entry points of government services, for example, the civil service and public universities. However, this is counter-balanced by Article 136 that says all federal employees must be treated fairly regardless of race.

This means that ONCE INSIDE a service, EVERYONE is to be treated EQUALITY based on merit. In such a situation, only the cream will rise to the top.

However, since the introduction of the NEP, the practice in government services has been to promote Malays mainly. This has in turn led to a drop in the number of non-Malay actors in the service of the public.

Why are Malaysian Lecturers Working in National University of Singapore ?

Taking my profession for example, the closeted unrealistic world of academia, I look down south and I see that 30% of the staff in the National University of Singapore Law School are Malaysians.

How come these clever fellows who are good enough to teach in a university that is among the top 20 in the world are NOT HERE in the land of their birth?

Why are the blinking Singaporeans enjoying our talent? Is it because that talent is all non-Malay and they feel they have better opportunities there than here?

The Brain Drain is a Loss to Malay Students in Local Universities

This is a complete waste, and in the end this loss of talent means a loss for the university, the country and the people of this country, including the Malay students who miss out on the best possible teachers.

Perhaps the real threat is the threat to Umno hegemony.

My answer to that is this:

Clean up your act, live up to your promises and listen to what the people are saying.

Make yourself electable by proving that you can create good government.
    That is called democracy.

UMNO's Norza Calls for Pow-Wow with PKR and PAS to Discuss UMNO's Malay Dilemma After March 2008 Election

UMNO's subtle tactics in the name of "Malay unity" to get Pakatan Rakyat to further engage in race-based policies and politics, despite the fact that Special Malay rights are already protected by the Federal Constitution and the NEP is nothing more than an UMNO construct with no legal standing.

    We say,

PKR and PAS must be careful NOT to be seen nor perceived by Malaysian voters to be playing directly into the hands of UMNO's Malay race-politics in the name of race-unity.

Likewise, we would not want to see DAP engaged in Chinese and/or Indian race-politics in the name of Race-Unity.

UMNO's proposed "Malay Secretariat" is a BAD idea. If realised, it will sprout Chinese Secretariat, Indian Secretariat, Hindu Secretariat, Dayak Secretariat and a whole lot of race-based Secretariats.

And Malaysia will then be back again to ugly race-based politics of Barisan Nasional (BN), this time with a veneer of FALSE respectability.

We voted clearly for NATIONAL UNITY and NOT the kind of race-unity espoused by BN/UMNO.

Certainly WE did NOT vote for Pakatan Rakyat's political parties to win for race unity."

    Excerpts:

UMNO supreme council member Datuk Mohamad Norza Zakaria has called a meeting of representatives from Umno, Parti Keadilan Rakyat and PAS to discuss "MALAY ISSUES" .

The meeting is at the initiative of Umno supreme council member Datuk Mohamad Norza Zakaria who has been in contact with both PKR vice-president Mohamed Azmin Ali and Pas Youth chief Salahuddin Ayub over the past few days to arrange details. He said other supreme council members did not object to the meeting.

Mohamad Norza said the ultimate goal was "to set up a Secretariat consisting of all the MALAY parties " in the Malaysian political landscape.

    Mohamad Norza said,

"This is MY own idea. I think it is timely especially after the results of the 12th general election. Some of the issues to be discussed included matters relating to religion, education as well as the New Economic Policy.

We need to determine where exactly the Malays are right now. A lot of the discussions going on have been superficial. Everything has been based on political sentiments, not facts.

On the New Economic Policy, its ultimate goal is to make the Malays competitive. This has to be deliberated.

We would like everyone to approach these issues with a common stand and prevent these three issues from being politicised."

Mohamad Norza said the initial meeting would be held on an informal basis.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Azmin, when contacted by the New Straits Times, said PKR accepted the invitation as long as the principles were in line with his party's objectives. He said,

"Malay unity is very important but we don't want it to benefit only the Malay ruling elite with the ordinary Malays left out. We believe Malay rights have to defended.

But at the same time, we also have to be fair to the other races."
Mohamed Azmin said there would be no problem for PKR to attend the meeting as their DAP coalition partner accepted their desire to strengthen Malay unity.

Salahuddin said Pas, too, was interested in defending the rights of Malays and other Bumiputeras.

    Quote Pages 4-5:

" Tradisi kuasa berlaku lagi.

In the booklet, Norza also juxtaposed a Mahathir who was described as drunken with fast-pace infrastructural development -- hence sidelining the development of other good values -- with an Abdullah who is ever committed to eradicating corruption and upholding justice in wealth distribution.

    Quote Pages 9 and 13:

Some in Umno did not like the tone used to describe Dr Mahathir's legacy. The elder statesman may be deemed politically incorrect but he is still acknowledged as a great Malay leader who brought progress to their lives, party and country.

His rivals saw it as a brazen attempt to get onto Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's radar screen and have labelled it “Risalah Bodoh Norza” (Norza's idiotic pamphlet). Read here for more

Guna akai, tuan-tuan. Jangan mudah digula-gulakan oleh kata-kata manis si penanam tebu di tepi bibir, Norza Al-Barua.

Sekiranya tuan-tuan enggan guna akai, jangan pikiaq rakyat akan sama bodo telan bulat-bulat benda ni.

Ingat apa jadi kat Pak Lah. Dia janji macam-macam.

Suara rakyat, suara keramat. Penendang rakyat, hangpa belum kenai lagi...."

Up hold Justice For ALL : Malaysia Does NOT Belong to UMNO

Fellow Muslim brothers and sisters, live up to what the Quran and Sunnah required of us to do by ensuring justice is served!

Whatever school of thoughts you may be, Shafie, Hambali, Maliki or Hanafi even Hadhari, it is your PERSONAL responsibility to upholding justice without fear or favour.

(And) I wish to call upon all Malaysians this country to do what all religions required all of you to do, i.e. Uphold justice.

Justice means the same treatment to be accorded to every mankind irrespective of their background or social status.

Malaysia does NOT belong to UMNO, Mahathir, Najib or any specific person.

If these people wish to administer this country in accordance to their whim and fancy, by all means go get themselves an island and rule it whatever way they wish.

Malaysia is a country that belongs to every single citizen who is born here. We have sufficient legislations including the fundamental law of the land, the Federal Constitution which guarantee each citizen their rights and freedoms.

Over the last couple of decades, or rather since Mahathir was made the Prime Minister of this country, justice has been perverted only to those who are wealthy and well connected. Freedom of expressions has been severely curtailed and justice appeared to be a myth rather than fact.

The citizens of this country have been indoctrinated with fear and suspicious of others, just as wanted by Mahathir in his ‘divide and rule’ strategy. Those disillusioned and can afford migrated and those who are less fortunate decided to close an eye to their surroundings.

Take a look at the public offices. Most of the Director-Generals and head of Departments are buffoons who are incompetent and speak even when it is completely unnecessary. Looking back, except for a handful, credibility and competency do not seem to be within the job descriptions required of these people rather, their appointment depend very much on how willing they are to ‘kow tow’ to these unscrupulous politicians.

As a result, you have a clueless management that mismanage a statutory body which its functions are clearly stated and defined in the statute; a ‘half past six’ judge (as he then was) who required the assistance of a lawyer to ensure he be appointed as the country’s Lord.

"...the Sedition Act can be enforced in the Dewan Rakyat,
in other words, the Sedition Act is also applicable in the Dewan Rakyat."

    We say,

We seek legal opinion, from the Bar Council and others, on the extent of the constitutional powers of the Executive to cause security instruments of Government to charge sitting Members of Parliament speaking in the Dewan Rakyat under the Sedition Act.

Can a Member of Parliament's right of free speech during Parliamentary sessions be gutted by the Sedition Act or any other Act for that matter, as mentioned by the Prime Minister?

    We want to know.

What is MP Zaid Ibrahim, the de-facto Minister on legal matters, have to say on this?

As far as we know, under parliamentary democracy which Malaysia adopts from the Westminster system, Members of Parliament speaking in the House (Dewan Rakyat) "are protected by parliamentary privilege, which means they cannot be taken to court for anything they say. This enables them to comment freely on public affairs and to make accusations on individuals. "

    -Malaysian Unplug

Bernama reported Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi yesterday reminded members of Parliament not to debate on issues touching on racial sensitivity at the Dewan Rakyat sitting as the Sedition Act could be enforced in the august house.

    He said,

“They (MPs) must ensure that the debate is of quality and at the same time remember that issues that can raise racial sensitivity, issues that breach the Sedition Act must be avoided.

This is because the Sedition Act can be enforced in the Dewan Rakyat, in other words, the Sedition Act is also applicable in the Dewan Rakyat.

They are not free to talk on anything that breaches the Act.

If you don’t know and speak wrongly (in the debate), then there is no meaning, it gives no significance at all. They (members of parliament) must be firm and confident to come up with good debates.

Those who utter such words are also admonished by the Speaker.

Don’t speak as you like, waiting for the Speaker to reprimand, don’t speak on matters that will invite a reprimand from the Speaker.

Such words cannot be used in Parliament. It is unparliamentary. That’s why I said they should read the Standing Orders."

Kelantan Crown Prince Tengku Faris Petra is Way Out of Royal Line and Un-becoming of a Royalty in 21st Century Malaysia

    LATEST UPDATE: 15TH aPRIL 2008

It is now determined that the text of the speech of the Crown Prince is 99 % the SAME as what the Crown Prince Tengku Faris Petra actually spoke.

And that is the most disappointing development because it confirms our worst fears about the views of the Crown Prince on his direct involvement and engagement in the dangerous racial politics of this country.

Thus, regretfully, we still stand by our original comment (see below) on the speech of Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra at the forum.
    -Malaysian Unplug

From Haris Ibrahim in People's Parliament Blog:

"... Got this in the e-mail from Steven Gan of Malaysiakini :

"...I refer to your April 14 posting ‘What you read ain’t always what’s said!’ regarding Malaysiakini’s report of Tengku Faris’ speech.

In response, I’d like to make the following points:

    1. Malaysiakini reporters (not one but three) were at the function

    2. We have in possession the audio recording of Tengku Faris speech

    3. What was delivered by Tengku Faris on that day was 99% similar to

the written text given to reporters

    4. We have matched all quotes in our report to the audio recordings

In the interest of fair play, we would very much appreciate if you could make a clarification in your blog.

    Thanking you in advance. "
    _____________________________

I received the amended text of Tengku Faris’s speech from Lil’ Hummingbird a little while ago. Have gone through all 13 pages of the original text and the hand-written amendments thereon, and re-read the Malaysiakini report.

I’ve got to say that the amendments do not take much away from the original text. And I have to agree with Steven that the Malaysiakini report does accurately reflect what was said.

I am disappointed with the Crown Prince.

    UPDATE: 14th April 2008

    From People's Parliament Blog:

" Re: Malaysiakini report that Tengku Faris had made some rather un-Bangsa Malaysia statements last week?

    Apparently,
it was written in HRH’s scripted speech by some official.

But he re-worked it the night before he was to deliver the keynote address.

I’m also told that whilst he delivered his re-worked speech, the media reps in attendance were given the ORIGINAL text.

So it would seem that the reporters merely extracted from the distributed ORIGINAL text and did NOT report on what was ACTUALLY said.

I’ve suggested to Lil’ Hummingbird that she flutter away and hum in the royal ear that royal steps be taken to clear this most unfortunate confusion...."
    -
    Haris Ibrahim

    We say,

If it is true that the Crown Prince Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra did NOT deliver what was given in the original text, then it is very crucial that those responsible or the HRH himself should immediately clear the concerns of HRH's subjects and other Malaysians on this unfortunate incident which had smeared his royal good name.

The culprits who fumbled and caused this untoward incident thus embarrassing the good name of the Crown Prince should be held accountable and face the consequences. No excuse is sufficient for this public relations disaster caused to the Crown Prince of Kelantan.

The Barisan Bertindak Perpaduan Melayu organisers of the forum must take FULL BLAME and FULL RESPONSIBILITY for causing this embarrassment to the Crown Prince.

We await for further development and resolution of this embarrassment caused to the royalty before making further comments on this issue.

    We say,

It was, to say the least, a totally Disgraceful Royal Speech by Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra, the Crown Prince of KELANTAN at the “Malay Unity is the Core of National Unity” forum organised by the Barisan Bertindak Perpaduan Melayu in Kuala Lumpur.

With a speech laced with racial tones, the Crown Prince of Kelantan has presented himself as an EXACT OPPOSITE version of the more distinguished and highly admired Regent of Perak.

For making a royal speech with strong racial undertones, Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra CANNOT claim to be a Ruler for the NON-Malay Kelantanese, who had been proud to be called themselves "Anak Kelantan" for many generations .

Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra has made for himself to be a Malay Ruler ONLY for the Malays and NOT a Malay ruler for ALL Malaysians in a multi-racial Malaysia.

Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra should have used his acquired royal wisdom in his royal head BEFORE opening his royal mouth to make such racially divisive and politically charged comments.

Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra has entered into the quagmire of divisive racial politics of Malaysia. By doing so, as a Kelantan Crown Prince, he has deliberately bought into a position of NOT WANTING to endear himself to the Kelantanese NON-Malays, and to non-Malays in general.

The only conclusion we can reach is that Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra is NOT the kind of Royalty and the type of role model of a future Malay Ruler who we all Malaysians, Malays, Chinese, Indians and others can be truly proud of and who we can fully respect.

Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra should aim to be the Royal Champion of ALL his subjects, that include the NON-Malays. As a future Ruler of a State, he should NOT try to be a narrow-minded racially-biased Champion of the Malays only.

Sadly, after this speech, it is now very hard for non-Malays in Kelantan and outside Kelantan to wish Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra "Daulat Tuanku".

Or does he deserve it? We don't think so.

We therefore appeal to the HRH Sultan of Kelantan to have a quiet pep talk to this Crown Prince BEFORE he does further damage to the social fabric of this country by engaging in racial politics and making speeches which are racially divisive.

    Excerpts: Read here for more

Kelantan Crown Prince Tengku Faris Petra said today that Malays had been COERCED into giving non-Malays citizenship and NON Malays should therefore NOT seek equality or special treatment.

He said this during his keynote speech at a forum titled “Malay unity is the core of national unity” organised by the newly formed Barisan Bertindak Perpaduan Melayu in Kuala Lumpur today.

Speaking to a crowd of about 1,000 people, Tengku Faris said the Malay rulers would be an umbrella to foster unity among all Malaysians, based on the Federal Constitution and the Rukun Negara.

Reading from a 11-page prepared text, he said,

“... The rakyat must unite and never raise issues regarding Malay rights and special privileges because it is a quid pro quo in gratitude for the giving in of citizenship (beri-paksa kerakyatan) to 2.7 million non-Malays into the Tanah Melayu federation.

Thus, it is not appropriate for these other ethnic groups to have citizenship, only (later) to seek equality and privileges.

The Malay rulers are the head of the Islamic religion and Malaysia is a Islamic country (negara Islam), NOT secular. We have our own formula (as a country) which is different from others.

In fact, if Malay rights and special privileges are taken care of and is not disturbed, it would ensure national harmony. It does not just benefit the Malays but all ethnic groups.

The election results have shown that the Malays are disunited and facing other ethnic groups who are more dominant politically and economically.

Discussing about polemics such as Islamic state, secular state, welfare state... confuses the people... Resulting from this confusion, Malays are becoming more disillusioned.

We have to make an effort to unite.

Don’t split up. Avoid polemics that can distance us. Ideology (and) having different interpretations does not contribute to Malay unity."

Tengku Faris said non-Malays are allowed to practice their respective religions in peace. They must however do so in accordance with the law and “not be provocative towards Islam."

In his speech, Tengku Faris said the 12th General Election results have shown that the Malays are being “challenged” and thus Malays unity is of the outmost priority.

As the constitution provides that the Malays are the natives (penduduk asal) of Malaysia, Tengku Faris said every Malay must defend the constitution and Islam and this can only be achieved through Malay unity.

It is disgusting, even if these people have a right to their opinions and a right to express them.

  • "... I could not believe my eyes. Yes, HRH (Crown Prince of Kelantan) was telling Malaysians of Chinese, Indians, Eurasian, Thai and other non-Melayu ancestries that there is to be no ‘equality’ for them vis-à-vis Melayu’s.

Personally I don’t care so much about ‘special treatment’, but ‘equality’ …?

    WTF, aren’t WE Malaysian citizens?

Does HRH understand what is a citizen? … unless of course he has in mind ‘second’ and ‘third’ etc classes of citizenships?

Then he added, getting his royal self involved with POLITICS: “The election results have shown that the Malays are disunited and facing other ethnic groups who are more dominant politically and economically.”

Alas, the future Sultan of Kelantan has not only failed to understand what is democracy but has committed a royal faux pas by making an unacceptable political statement, as well as coo-ing such ‘sweet’ music at a forum organized by Barisan Bertindak Perpaduan Melayu, a group of conservative Malay NGOs – in the old days they would be called ‘ultras’.

The theme of the forum was 'Malay unity is the core of national unity'.

The issue of ‘national unity’ is total bullshit after HRH has slapped non-Malay Malaysians in their faces.

Either the bigots are exploiting the Royalties to project a more extreme ethno-centric positioning. Or the royalties themselves feel they need to exert their ethnic muscles.

What does the PAS MB of Kelantan say about this?

How the hell has he allowed the Crown Prince of his State to be hijacked by Barisan Bertindak Perpaduan Melayu into making such a hurtful racist political statement?..."

Persoalannya sekarang, apakah wajar orang Melayu berkiblat satu sahaja parti politik seperti UMNO?

    1. ".... This kelantan prince needs someone to translate the constitution for him. How can you blame the rakyat for saying he is not intelligent and do not seem to understand the constitution. Clearly the constitution says we are a secular country but islam is the religion of the federation. Seems that the only royalty that seem to be really intelligent and a non-racist is Raja Nazrin. At least he is one person ALL the rakyat has respect for...."

    2. "... You have obviously been grossly misinformed or......being used. We don't need a racist prince. Certainly! ..."

    3. "...This is surprising given that they have been under PAS for so many years, and certainly PAS does not promote Ketuanan Melayu. Barisan Bertindak Perpaduan Melayu is the bigger problem. They only invite extremists to talk at their seminars. Soon you will hear of these ultras calling for a repeat of May 13. ..."

    4. "...Why can't we have princes like Raja Nazrin, who when he opens his mouth says things that gives hope and encouragement to all Malaysians. His comments and speeches are truly inspirational and makes one proud of the Malaysian Royalty.
Then we have Tengku Faris, who lends his weight to people who create tension and fear, because they lack the intellect to see issues. Malaysians went to vote and voted in for candidates of their choice. is that a crime? How does that threaten any community?

Maybe Tengku Faris should have told Malaysians whom to vote for. Get a life Tengku. I can assure you the non-Malays in this country are very loyal to the royalty. They see how princes like Raja Nazrin play a vital role in the dynamics that shape our nation.

Please remember Tengku, that you are royalty to all Malaysians. Don't get used by politicians and bigots and racialists who hate anythin that is not like them.

    5. "...Dear Tengku, You have obviously been grossly misinformed or you are living in the 14th century. If what you say is right that Malays have been coerced into giving non-malays citizenship then I proposed you tell that to the Malaysian Govt to allow Penang to rejoin back the British Empire. That also goes for Sarawak and Sabah. I also suggest you take up history lessons that Kelantan was once part of the Siamese empire and you can go back to them...."
    6. "... our Federal Constitution clearly states that, Islam is the religion of the Federation & it does not mean that we are an Islamic country! As such, when the Crown Prince says that, Malaysia is an Islamic country, either our Federal Constitution is wrong or the Crown prince is lying. Am I right? ..."

    7. "...My first reaction is one of a shock - my ignorance of how such a prince thinks the world revolves around melayu centric, or how ignorant such a prince can be! My!! ..."

    8. "...Dumb prince makes dumb statement and calling himself a prince , must be the dumb kids on the block . Just to enlightened the history of Kelantan; Under the terms of the Anglo-Siamese Treaty of 1909, the Thais surrendered its claims over Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah and Perlis to Great Britain, and Kelantan thus became one of the Unfederated Malay States with a British Adviser.
Kelantan was the first place in Malaya to be occupied by the Japanese, who invaded on December 8, 1941. During the Japanese occupation, Kelantan came again under control of Siam, but after the defeat of Japan in August 1945, Kelantan reverted to British rule.

Kelantan became part of the Federation of Malaya on February 1, 1948 and together with other states attained independence on August 31, 1957. On September 16, 1963, Kelantan became one of the component states of Malaysia.

The Non Malays and the Malays should thus have equal status in Kelantan and in Malaysia by virtue of the fact that Kelantan was also under British at some time .

If you think you want to pull wool over our eyes, I think you have been USED by the Barisan Bertindak Perpaduan Melayu .

    9. "...With due respect to the Prince, he is now wading into the quagmire of political quicksand. He may be unwittingly reading a text written by some UMNOputras.
Just like many from the Straits Settlements of Penang, Melaka and even Lumut, we were all borned British subjects. We exchanged British citizenship for Malaysian citizenship without my consent.

Let's hope the Kelantan Crown Prince is in newspapers jargon "misquoted". Otherwise, he need to get a crash course on Malaysian Constitution 101. .."

    10. "...Dumb statements like this only make the structure of a monarchy (Malaysian style) more venerable. He isn't making the Malay cause more palatable; indeed it is unacceptable. More of this and he might be staring at a movement that would call for the abolishment of the monarchy all together. ..."

    11. "...This is a political statement normally made by aspiring politicians from UMNO Youth. It's not right for those who wish to maintain their royal decorum to enter into such polemics for he will then face rebuttals which may be unpleasant.
      Or he could enter politics...."

    12. "..Tengku Faris, You must be reading Utusan, Berita, and the Star while at the golf course. Pls don't be fooled by the bangsawan and jutawan inside UMNO..."

    13. "... Bagaimana negara kita nak maju? ..."

    14. "...This is Malaysia at the crossroad. Royalty is one of the instituition of the Malays that I would respect just because of its name and that should be the case. That would be the ultimate respect show by non-Malay to Malaysian as Malaysian and we expect rulers to protect and strengthen us rakyat as well.
On the other hand how do you response to this immature comments. Equality must be provided by the goverment to all their citizens without looking at their race, creed or religion period. If Malay is mature as Malaysian they should advice these potentially division comments by our Rulers that they must provide leadership, protection and strength for all Malaysian and not only Malays.

Disappointing to the bone concerning the comments and make me wish all my family members move out of this country now. But, than again I hope the Malay is mature enough to take this comment with a grain of salt and not follow blindly on comments like this..."

    15. "...It's quite shocking for the royalty to say such a thing. It almost renders the 12th GE election meaningless. Why does the royalty give Datukships and Tan Sris to non Malays then?
OMG, my heart is broken to pieces. My heart is broken to pieces. Is there hope for non Malays? We have no right to seek for equality, what right do we have then? Are the non Malays the black equivalents of America?

This is a dark moment for non Malays of Malaysia. The Kelantan royalty has taken the hope away from we thought we saw only about a month ago. Perhaps all these hopes were just a dream. We have been jolted up from our sweet dream.

We have wake up to reality. This is reality! ..."

    16. "...I had friends from other countries who emailed me to congratulate us (malaysians) after our dare devil performance in the last general election. And almost all of them in their own subtle ways, implied that they are surprised that malays are not as tunnelled vision as they think. And here we have a 'prince' to white wash it all away with just an idiotic racial laced sentence. Come on man...a 'prince' making such an inferior statement. Sorry lah my Malay brothers, I think you still have a long fight to raise your heads in this world. With people like this in yourr midst its.... "

    17. "... OUTRAGEOUS! This is an insult to people who recently denied the two-third BN majority and readily to give an opportunity to the country to build a ONE Malaysian nation, rather than a multi racial nation.
What about non-Malay who were born in Malaysia and Malaysian who are 2rd, 3rd and 4th generations? Do you consider them legalized citizens likening to their ancestors who came to Malaysia prior to its independent?

If the constitution holds true then non-Malay citizens will forever barred from seeking equality and making Malay the dominant race in the country and how well this can make Malaysia truly a ONE nation?

So long Malaysia continues to have these loose canons, it never able to achieve the ONE nation status and forever people are divided. When their positions are threatened, they must use racial issue to enhance their positions..."
    18. "...OK, 1st of all, I'm going to openly state that I'm a Kelantanese and a Malay. I was watching Buletin Utama just now when they show the snippet of Tengku faris making the speech.
To be honest, I felt sick in the stomach on how a prince (from Kelantan some more) can read such a speech (yes he was reading it guys, written by someone else...words by words).

I always think that the whole 'gabungan-for-melayu' or whatever crap they called it would do much damage than good to the country knowing that most people who gonna make much noise in it will be the usual UMNO bunch. They should just call themselves UMNO!!

I was a bit surprised how a crown prince can get caught up in the middle of all these nonsense.

However, for all the readers who posted the comment here, please stop the whole Kelantanese-can-go-back-to-Siam' and other Malay taunting. It too is uncalled for as the prince speech. Do not think that all Kelantanese (and Malay) agree with him.We are all Malaysian despite what those bunch said! Nothing will change that. This is part of the strategy to get the non malay upset.

Remember what RPK cautioned us before? It was only a day after RPK warned us about all these...it was made after the whole MCA saying Chinese being cheated.

Now it's UMNO turn to put fuel on the Malay!!

Wake up guys, I know everyone is upset but DO NOT fall into their trap! DO NOT give them excuse to start something worse. Please, I'm begging all of the Malaysian to see what they're really trying to do!

Tengku Razaleigh is the uncle of Sultan Kelantan, so I'm not suprised this is part of elaborate plot by UMNO to turn the heat up on Malaysian who are just beginning to break down the race barrier!

Trust me, Tengku Faris does not know what he is saying, he just read it out of pages being given to him. Maybe it's a case of trying to do a' Raja Nazrin' (which I'm so proud of now that I'm living in Perak), maybe it's a case of naivety, but whatever it is, there's only 1000 people there. Do you guys know what that mean? Meaning it doesn't hold any weight to the current RAKYAT opinion.

I'm stressing again, do not fall into their trap...DO NOT get into the name calling of the Royalty. It's what they really want. Again, remember what YM RPK cautioned us. Do not give this hard fought victory away! ..."

    Excerpts:

"...Ampun Tuanku beribu ampun sembah patik harap diampun.
