UMNO's Norza Calls for Pow-Wow with PKR and PAS to Discuss UMNO's Malay Dilemma After March 2008 Election

UMNO's subtle tactics in the name of "Malay unity" to get Pakatan Rakyat to further engage in race-based policies and politics, despite the fact that Special Malay rights are already protected by the Federal Constitution and the NEP is nothing more than an UMNO construct with no legal standing.

We say,

PKR and PAS must be careful NOT to be seen nor perceived by Malaysian voters to be playing directly into the hands of UMNO's Malay race-politics in the name of race-unity.

Likewise, we would not want to see DAP engaged in Chinese and/or Indian race-politics in the name of Race-Unity.

UMNO's proposed "Malay Secretariat" is a BAD idea. If realised, it will sprout Chinese Secretariat, Indian Secretariat, Hindu Secretariat, Dayak Secretariat and a whole lot of race-based Secretariats.

And Malaysia will then be back again to ugly race-based politics of Barisan Nasional (BN), this time with a veneer of FALSE respectability.

We voted clearly for NATIONAL UNITY and NOT the kind of race-unity espoused by BN/UMNO.

Certainly WE did NOT vote for Pakatan Rakyat's political parties to win for race unity."

Excerpts:

UMNO supreme council member Datuk Mohamad Norza Zakaria has called a meeting of representatives from Umno, Parti Keadilan Rakyat and PAS to discuss "MALAY ISSUES" .

The meeting is at the initiative of Umno supreme council member Datuk Mohamad Norza Zakaria who has been in contact with both PKR vice-president Mohamed Azmin Ali and Pas Youth chief Salahuddin Ayub over the past few days to arrange details. He said other supreme council members did not object to the meeting.

Mohamad Norza said the ultimate goal was "to set up a Secretariat consisting of all the MALAY parties " in the Malaysian political landscape.

Mohamad Norza said,

"This is MY own idea. I think it is timely especially after the results of the 12th general election. Some of the issues to be discussed included matters relating to religion, education as well as the New Economic Policy.

We need to determine where exactly the Malays are right now. A lot of the discussions going on have been superficial. Everything has been based on political sentiments, not facts.

On the New Economic Policy, its ultimate goal is to make the Malays competitive. This has to be deliberated.

We would like everyone to approach these issues with a common stand and prevent these three issues from being politicised."

Mohamad Norza said the initial meeting would be held on an informal basis.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Azmin, when contacted by the New Straits Times, said PKR accepted the invitation as long as the principles were in line with his party's objectives. He said,

"Malay unity is very important but we don't want it to benefit only the Malay ruling elite with the ordinary Malays left out. We believe Malay rights have to defended.

But at the same time, we also have to be fair to the other races."
Mohamed Azmin said there would be no problem for PKR to attend the meeting as their DAP coalition partner accepted their desire to strengthen Malay unity.

Salahuddin said Pas, too, was interested in defending the rights of Malays and other Bumiputeras.

".... And other dead Prime Ministers -- Tunku Abdul Rahman, Tun Abdul Razak and Tun Hussein Onn -- were NOT being spared the down-shadow in places where Abdullah was put on the pedestal to OUTSHINE all the rest .

Quote Pages 4-5:

" Tradisi kuasa berlaku lagi.

In the booklet, Norza also juxtaposed a Mahathir who was described as drunken with fast-pace infrastructural development -- hence sidelining the development of other good values -- with an Abdullah who is ever committed to eradicating corruption and upholding justice in wealth distribution.

Quote Pages 9 and 13:

Some in Umno did not like the tone used to describe Dr Mahathir's legacy. The elder statesman may be deemed politically incorrect but he is still acknowledged as a great Malay leader who brought progress to their lives, party and country.

His rivals saw it as a brazen attempt to get onto Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's radar screen and have labelled it “Risalah Bodoh Norza(Norza's idiotic pamphlet). Read here for more

"...It seems that stupidity doesn’t only run in Umno. It has also reared its ugly head in PKR and PAS.

Guna akai, tuan-tuan. Jangan mudah digula-gulakan oleh kata-kata manis si penanam tebu di tepi bibir, Norza Al-Barua.

Sekiranya tuan-tuan enggan guna akai, jangan pikiaq rakyat akan sama bodo telan bulat-bulat benda ni.

Ingat apa jadi kat Pak Lah. Dia janji macam-macam.

Suara rakyat, suara keramat. Penendang rakyat, hangpa belum kenai lagi...."

  1. "... PAS and PKR has fallen into the UMNO trap hook, line and sinker. Stupidity is too a kind a word to describe their decision. Could they not see what UMNO was trying to do?
UMNO’s objective was clearly to subtly drive into the non-Malay minds that PAS and PKR are still racially biased towards the Malays and drive a wedge into the non- Malay support for PAS and PKR.

PAS and PKR should work with the DAP and look at how to work out policies for the poor and downtrodden whatever their race is. If PAS and PKR lose sight of this, they can bet their bottom dollar they will be out on their backsides in the next GE.

And once they are out of power, UMNO will not even give them the time of day anymore - let alone meet them. Be real!!!..."

  2. "...This is sending the wrong message! Ketuanan Rakyat kononnya! Azmin, you want to show to the world that Anwar is a hypocrite?..."

  3. "...I think the only reason they have accepted the invitation to the meeting is not to fall into BN’s trap… “See, I invite them to discuss about Melayu and they refuse. They have abandoned Melayu”.

Also, I honestly feel that attending the meeting doesn’t mean that they are already to abandoned what they promised us, Ketuanan Rakyat. We can only say that they betray us if they agree with UMNO and abandoned their Ketuanan Rakyat approach. If they attend the meeting to simply listen to what Norza wants to say, I think it is still harmless..."

  4. "...If UMNO-PAS-PKR have a closed-door meeting, it will sow suspicions on the minds of the non-Malay supporters of Pakatan Rakyat..."

  5. "...Two nights ago Tn Guru Haji Hadi said(on TV3) he would prefer if UMNO includes DAP as well in the said meeting, not just PAS and PKR. Therefore, let PKR-PAS explain to UMNO their stand on the ‘Malay’ and NEP issues. If not, UMNO will still ‘menjaja’ those issues to the less informed malay communities..."
