IGP KHALID COMING ACROSS AND CLUELESS AND EMBARRASSING IHIS MEN AND WOMEN IN UNFORM

JUST ABOUT EVERY INSTITUTION IN MALAYSIS HAS BEEN COMPROMISED BY UMNO-BARU

1. THE JUDICIARY

Saiful Bukhari Azlan is probably giddy with excitement because the judges had faith in him.

He said, “Thanks to prayers and patience for the past seven years, the Federal Court unanimously decided that whatever I had claimed is the truth and that I am a credible witness.”

He then insulted many thousands of Malaysians when he said, “From the beginning, when I lodged a police report over the case until now, what I want as a citizen of this country is my complaint against Anwar to be investigated and judged, nothing more than that.”

Saiful is “special”. Many OTHER families tried, but FAILED to get justice. Like Saiful, they wanted thorough investigations to be conducted on their loved ones.

They are the families of
- A Kugan,
- Ahmad Sarbani,
- Altantuya Shaariibuu,
- Aminulrasyid Amzah,
- Teoh Beng Hock.

These people PAID WITH THEIR LIVES.

- Others lived, but many lost their livelihoods and their dignity.

- Some fell ill, others suffered broken relationships.

Crucially, THEY LOST THEIR FAITH IN THE MALAYSIAN JUDICIARY.

The day Saiful showed his gratitude to the judiciary, cartoonist Zunar was arrested for tweeting that “The lackeys in black robes are proud of their sentence. The reward from political masters must be plenty.”

Zunar is right. The judiciary was compromised in 1988, by former PM Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. In 1987, Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah challenged Mahathir’s alleged vote rigging, in an internal election, and the court declared the original Umno, an illegal party. Mahathir endured international humiliation and the judiciary was subsequently punished.

The British left us with a well-respected institution but Mahathir and successive PMs destroyed it.

2. THE POLICE FORCE

The IGP’s action against Zunar confirms the PDRM to be the second institution that has been compromised.

Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar may wish to arrest anyone who disagrees with Umno Baru but there won’t be enough cells to contain at least 53% of the population.

Why did the IGP tweet about lawyer Eric Paulsen’s arrest, moments after he was detained?

Khalid manages social media somewhat better than he handles crime.

The PDRM acts like an extension of Umno Baru, and arresting Paulsen was to prove to Malays that Umno Baru is the defender of Islam and the Malays.

3. RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS eg JAKIM

Religious institutions like Jakim, meant to safeguard Islam, instead, abuse religion for political gain. These institutions act like extensions of Umno Baru.

The ban on the use of the word “Allah”, by non-Malays in West Malaysia, is politically motivated.

FATWAS ARE LITTERED LIKE COMFETTI and used to manipulate Malay (read Muslim) behaviour.

FRIDAYB sermons have POLITICAL,UNDERTONES
and are used TOMCONDITION MUSLIMS.

3. THE CIVIL,SERVICE?

When the British left, the civil service was highly respected among Malaysians but Umno and Umno Baru soon compromised it.

Today, many TOP CIVIL SERVANTS , like their political masters, PREFER TO SERVE THEMSELVES rather than the public.

Najib requires 45,000 civil servants IN the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). WHY?

The PMO tweeted about the “independence” of the judiciary, in Anwar’s trial, even before the judges had delivered the sentence. This tweet showed that the VERDICT WAS PRE-JUDGED.

4. THE MILITARY

A few weeks ago, Major Zaidi Ahmad was forced out of the RMAF, because he had dared to make a police report about non-indelible ink being used, in GE13.

5. THE ELECTION COMMISSION

The Election Commission (EC) is not an independent body but functions like an offshoot of Umno Baru.

The EC’s re-delineation exercise is meant to ensure further victories for Umno Baru in GE14. You can help save Malaysia by lodging an objection towards this gerrymandering exercise.

6. THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA

The media, like Utusan or TV3, is Umno Baru’s brainwashing unit. They have TWO functions.

a) They spread propaganda and glorify Umno Baru leaders.

b) They also keep housewives glued to the box, with soap operas from morning to night, to fill the vacuum in their lives and DESENSITISE THEIR BRAINS.

7. THE EDUCATION SYSTEM

The British left us with an education system which was the pride of Asia.

Today, good education comes at a cost.

The VVIPs and the Umno-Baruputras have the means to SEND THEIR CHILDREN OVERSEAS.

The wealthy cram their children into expensive private institutions.

The rest of us receive a bog standard education and argue about Malay and non-Malay entitlement for places in public universities.

There is the persistent undercurrent that people who speak English are unpatriotic.

8. THE FINANCIAL INSTITUTION

Our fiscal health shows signs of terminal decline.

Bank Negara appears unconcerned about the billions of ringgits in illicit outflows and equally worrying is the fact that one billionaire businessman will inject emergency funds, into the 1MDB project.

Najib once said in Sibu, “You help me, I help you”, which makes one wonder what deal has been arranged with this benefactor. There is no free lunch, not even in Putrajaya.

9. THE MALAYSIAN ANTI-CORRUPTION COMMISSION

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has long been known to investigate and prosecute the SMALL FRY, because THEY ARE AFRAID OF THE SHARKS in the system.

There is plenty of work for the MACC, but Umno Baru would not want their skeletons aired in public.

10. FREEDOM OF SPEECH IN PARLIAMENT

We once believed that our elected MPs could speak freely, and without fear, in Parliament.

It all depends which coalition your MP belongs to. Opposition MPs are silenced, when the pro-Umno Baru speaker simply switches off their microphones.

Such were the tone of remarks by two opposition leaders when asked about Inspector General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar's recent threat to probe their comments on the Federal Court's verdict on Anwar Ibrahim.

On Tuesday, Chief Justice Ariffin Zakaria, and four other Federal Court judges, unanimously upheld the Court of Appeal's decision to sentence Anwar to five years jail for sodomy.

When contacted, PKR national deputy youth chief Dr Afif Bahardin and PSM secretary-general S Arutchelvan said they had yet to receive any calls from the police.

But the duo remained unfazed, saying they were prepared for police action.

"My views questioning the credibility of the Malaysian judiciary are shared by many, including international leaders," Afif, who is also a Penang executive councillor told Malaysiakini.

"The IGP appears to have nothing better to do. He may as well probe the whole world because many are questioning the court's decision to jail Anwar," added the Seberang Jaya assemblyman.

Afif was referring to the international outcry by world leaders and human rights NGOs against Anwar's incarceration, as this is the second time the opposition leader has been imprisoned for charges related to sodomy.

Prime Minister Najib has maintained that the courts are independent, dismissing allegations that charges against Anwar was "politically motivated" to end his political career.

But Arutchelvan said that THE WHOLE COUNTRY shares his views that the charges and Tuesday's CONVICTION ON ANWAR - the Permatang Pauh MP - were "POLITICALLY MOTIVATED."

He said even BN LEADERS were mostly "SILENT" about the court's verdict as they may have felt uneasy about the matter.

"It looks like the IGP merely wants to instill fear in the nation, so that he can stop us all from criticising the government. HE SHOULD PROBE THE WHOLE COUNTRY AND EVEN THE WHOLE WORLD which sees Anwar's jailing is to end his political career.

"Even Amnesty International deems Anwar as a prisoner of conscience. How about that, IGP?" he asked.

Khalid also wants to haul up Jingga 13 chief Fariz Musa for allegedly calling on Anwar's supporters to overthrow the government through street protests.

But Fariz said he was merely referring to possible programmes planned by PKR or Pakatan Rakyat to seek Anwar's freedom.

"I did not mean separate rallies to overthrow the government.The police have not contacted me yet but I am prepared for it," he added.

In an interview with The Sun published today, Khalid was quoted as saying "I have issued the warning; now it is time to enforce the law against those who breach and attempt to breach public order.

"They will be investigated for instigating the people to take to the streets,” Khalid had reportedly said.

Already political cartoonist Zunar. real name Zulkiflee SM Anwar Ulhaque, is being remanded until Saturday.

Police are also investigating on PKR vice-president and secretary general Rafizi Ramli and Taiping MP, Nga Kor Ming under the Sedition Act.

The Malaysian authorities have detained a cartoonist and ordered an investigation into two prominent politicians in an intensifying crackdown on dissent after the country’s highest court upheld a five-year prison sentence for the leader of the opposition, Anwar Ibrahim.

The government for decades has been accused of using draconian and archaic laws to sideline and intimidate its critics.

But the latest cases come with a modern twist:
The country’s highest police officer, Khalid Abu Bakar, is using his Twitter account to issue warnings to government critics and to order his subordinates to track and investigate dissenting voices.

Zulkiflee Anwar Ulhaque, a cartoonist who goes by the name Zunar, was taken into custody on Tuesday after posting on Twitter a series of cartoons and messages critical of the high court’s handling of Mr. Anwar’s highly politicized trial on sodomy charges.

“The lackeys in black robes are proud of their sentence,” Mr. Zulkiflee wrote after Mr. Anwar was sent to a prison outside Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysian capital. “The reward from political masters must be plenty.”

Mr. Khalid sprang into action after reading Mr. Zulkiflee’s post.

“This man is inviting @PDRMsia to take action against him,” he wrote on Twitter, using the handle for the police department, whose Malay initials are P.D.R.M. He instructed his subordinates to “please track him down and investigate.”

The police arrested Mr. Zulkiflee at his home Tuesday night and on Wednesday obtained a court order to detain him until Saturday, said his lawyer, Melissa Sasidaran.

“The authorities have been trying to get at Zunar for quite some time,” she said. “They are worried that messages in his cartoons might get through to the people.”

Mr. Khalid also called for investigations into posts on Twitter by Rafizi Ramli, the secretary general of Mr. Anwar’s party, and Nga Kor Ming, an opposition member of Parliament.

After the verdict in Mr. Anwar’s case on Tuesday, Mr. Rafizi posted an image of a judge with a wig emblazoned with dollar signs.

“This is ridiculous. Where else in the world?” Mr. Rafizi wrote on Wednesday. “Judges should be criticized, especially in matters where the majority of the thinking public knows that a prosecution is all politically motivated.”

Mr. Nga had posted a message that urged people to “fight this cruel regime.”

Mr. Khalid, in a response to his post, said: “We will take action under the Sedition Act.”

The Internet has been seen by critics of the government as a liberating force in Malaysia. Unlike television and the print news media, social media and the web are largely free of government controls.

But Mr. Khalid’s vows to aggressively police the Internet have curbed this new frontier of free speech and have expanded the reach of a paternalistic government.

“He is always telling you what you can and cannot do,” said Ezra Zaid, a host at BFM, a talk radio station, referring to Mr. Khalid’s messages on Twitter. “But unlike other Twitter trolls, he has the power to arrest you.”

One recent post by Mr. Khalid exemplified the tone of his messages.

“Be careful what you say,” he wrote. “Don’t utter words that will cause the P.D.R.M. to take action. If you dare to talk, you dare to bear the consequences.”

Last month, Mr. Khalid ordered an inquiry into a Twitter user who had claimed that the disappearance of a Malaysia Airlines jetliner last year was a conspiracy. “Please track and investigate,” he instructed his subordinates on Twitter.

Mr. Khalid’s online policing is creating a marriage of modern technology with archaic, repressive laws.

Eric Paulsen, the co-founder of a civil- rights group called Lawyers for Liberty, said in an interview on Wednesday that about 15 people were charged with sedition over the past year in Malaysia.

The law against sedition was enacted in 1948, when the country was still a British colony and was facing a Communist insurgency.

Mr. Paulsen was arrested last month and charged with sedition after writing on Twitter that the government’s Islamic affairs department was promoting extremism in sermons it disseminated. He made the comments after the killings of journalists in Paris in January.

Mr. Khalid told his more than 30,000 Twitter followers that the arrest had taken place.

“The police force, at the end of the day, is not independent,” Mr. Paulsen said on Wednesday. “It’s a political force used to prop up the government.”

Mr. Khalid did not respond to questions sent by The New York Times to his Twitter account, and a government liaison officer did not respond to an email seeking comment.

Phil Robertson, the Asia deputy director of Human Rights Watch, said Mr. Khalid’s vow to police social media had made Malaysians think twice before posting anything.

“In Malaysia’s Twittersphere, the I.G.P. is like a shark in open water — inspiring fear whenever he comments,” said Mr. Robertson, using the initials for the inspector general of police.

Mr. Ezra said Malaysian society would be better served if the police shifted their focus to crime and other social ills.

“Zunar is not the most wanted or most dangerous criminal in the country,” he said of the cartoonist. “In this day and age, I think the real fear is that if the top brass is so preoccupied with cartoonists, who is going after the real bad guys in our society?”

Police today confiscated copies of cartoonist Zulkiflee Anwar Ulhaque's satire on the prime minister's wife, ahead of its planned launching today in Petaling Jaya.

Copies of his latest satire book on the prime minister's wife were however confiscated and could not be sold at the launch today.

The cartoonist, better known as Zunar, told the crowd gathered for the launch at 10am that police took away copies of the book while they were being transported to the venue at the Taman Jaya lake. The event started three hours late as a result.

He said the police stopped staff of the printing company bringing the books before taking away some 200 copies.

"The books have been confiscated by the police on their way here. Only a few copies are here," he said.

He then told people that they could still buy the books online and started receiving orders.

"ROS in Kangkongland" is a collection of cartoons on Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.

Zunar said his latest work is dedicated to Rosmah because he was inspired by her.

"This book is about Rosmah, Rosmah is my 'idol'. She gives me a lot of inspiration," he said at the launch.

"Every time she opens her mouth, I'm inspired, whenever she keeps quiet, I don't get any inspiration."

Zunar, whose previous works were banned, is under police investigation for sedition.

He was released yesterday after three days in remand for posting on his Twitter account a critical remark about the judiciary, following the jailing of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on February 10.

Zunar said that every time he was detained, the printing company that printed his books would also be raided.

When he was arrested earlier this week, the printer of "ROS in Kangkongland" decided to halt work on the book, he said.

The printing company, which he did not name, resumed printing after he was released from remand yesterday.

Zunar said the police's actions would not stop him from continuing his work as a satire cartoonist.

"I will give a clear message to them, that I will never stop. I will continue to fight through cartoons, to overthrow a cartoon government," he said.

He also said he was prepared to be charged since he was already under investigation for sedition.

"I expect this, I'm already prepared for the worst as a political cartoonist in Malaysia when you fight an oppressive government," he said.

Zunar said he expected police reports to be lodged against his new book on Rosmah and that any moves to penalise him for his cartoons would only make Malaysia a laughing stock in the eyes of the international community.

He said the government's actions against him made Putrajaya itself look like a cartoon.

"I hope one day this government will be finally kicked out by cartoonists, because it is a cartoon government."

He said he had drawn cartoons of the judiciary because the courts were "the last defenders of a democratic country".

"If you have an independent judiciary, people still have hope.

"But if you don't have, nobody will protect us anymore," he said.

Also present at the book launch were Batu MP Tian Chua from PKR, and indelible ink whistle-blower, former air force major Zaidi Ahmad.

Zaidi, who was to have launched the book, said Malaysians had to make a stand against an unjust government.
