MCA Expelled Its Deputy President Chua Soi Lek

President ONG TEE KEAT vs Deputy President CHUA SOI LEK

Update:
Former MCA vice president Datuk Fong Chan Onn urged the party's central leadership to reverse the decision to sack deputy president Datuk Dr Chua Soi Lek.

He added that Dr Chua was elected by the central delegates after his past history became public knowledge and the former health minister had even apologised for what he did.

"When the central delegates elected Ong Tee Keat and Chua Soi Lek as president and deputy president, they were fully aware of their background," said Fong . Read here for more

End of Update:

MCA president Ong Tee Keat announced that the presidential council had endorsed the recommendation of the party's disciplinary committee to sack Chua Soi Lek for damaging MCA's reputation due to his sex scandal.

In his blog, Chua said that the decision against him was not a surprise "because there has been a sustained attempt by the MCA president to subvert the wishes of the rank and file and end my political career".

When asked if he will be appealing against any decision taken today, he said he will consider when the decision is officially handed down.

He also replied with a flat "No" when asked if he was joining the opposition after he was sacked. Read here for more in malaysiakini

The Malaysian Insider reported that Najib was shocked at the decision, as are other Umno and BN leaders, as many of them feel that an MCA on a path of destruction is the last thing the ruling coalition needs.

Ong has denied being behind the decision to dredge up his deputy’s sex scandal even though the party’s disciplinary committee had decided early this month to go ahead with a hearing despite the fact that the complainant had withdrawn the allegation.

The tough action against Dr Chua today will be seen as an attempt by Ong to shore up his own position as there are now rumblings within the MCA against him for dragging the party into the PKFZ saga.

Yesterday, six party divisions in Perak openly called for Ong to be suspended over the allegations that Tiong had donated the RM10 million. Read here for more in Malaysian Insider

UMNO: Very Rich in Racist and Petty Politics but Bankrupt of Progressive Ideas

Read here article by Syed Jaymal Zahid in Malaysian Insider
Umno Race Tactics a Flop While PAS Maintains Chinese Support

by

Syed Jaymal Zahid

Excerpts:

If the Permatang Pasir by-election was to gauge the effectiveness of Umno’s communal politicking, the results point to only one conclusion: FAILURE

Mohd Salleh Man, PAS Penang commissioner, beat Rohaizat Othman, the scandal-hit Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate, with a majority of 4,551. The former garnered 9,618 votes against the latter’s 5,067.

PAS won in all Chinese dominated areas throughout the state constituency. From the suburbs of Sama Gagah and Cross Street to the semi-rural town of Permatang Pauh, the Islamist party thumped their Umno rivals with big majorities.

In Sama Gagah, where Umno and its allies in Barisan Nasional spent most of their time campaigning, PAS edged out its old foe by raking in 1,397 votes against Umno’s 594.

In Cross Street, a DAP stronghold, Umno fell behind PAS with a 642 majority and in Permatang Pauh, the former gained 875 votes against Umno’s 354.

Campaigning materials depicted PAS as an extremist group; focussing on Chinese-sensitive issues like the pig abbattoir closure in Kedah and the beer sale issue in Selangor to regain much of the lost Chinese votes that went to Pakatan Rakyat in last year’s general elections.

But the Permatang Pasir results have shown that Umno’s racial attacks have not been effective, said PAS vice-president and Permatang Pasir by-election director Datuk Mahfuz Omar.

“The voters have completely rejected the kind of racist politics played by Umno and BN,” Mahfuz told a post-victory press conference in Permatang Pasir.

Mahfuz claimed observations made by the party indicate a similar voting trend from the 2008 general elections, where Chinese votes mainly went to PR and the Malay votes are equally spread among supporters from both sides of the fence.

“Just as what had happened in the general elections, it has happened again here which shows that the people want change and transparent governance, a government with integrity, something that Umno and BN cannot provide,” he added.

The continued support shown by the Chinese voters here is not the only barometer of Umno’s ineptitude at communal politics.

Umno sang a different tune in Malay majority areas, portraying PAS as a party that has compromised Islamic values by being a stooge to a Chinese dominated party, the DAP.

This approach has also proven to be a failure. If Permatang Pasir is any gauge, Umno’s attacks have not gained much traction on the ground except among its own core supporters.

The results of yesterday’s by-election suggests a hardening of support on both sides of the political divide as PAS’s relentless attacks on Rohaizat’s candidacy also did not seem to have gained the party more votes.

Deputy Prime Minister and BN deputy chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yasin, the leading man behind the party’s ongoing racial attack, yesterday admitted that there were no significant changes in Malay voting trend.

Rohaizat, on the other hand, hinted that his defeat was caused by “the failure of the Chinese community here to fulfill its vows of support” which is an indirect admission that the race card has not worked its magic for Umno and BN.

Stumbling blocks to nation's progress

by

Khoo Kay Peng

At dinner last night, a foreign investor asked me if he should continue to bet his money on Malaysia in the next five years. He was anxious to find out if Malaysia can ride out the current economic crisis.

I told him that the indicators so far are not good. On the economy, it is quite obvious that the government and the ruling elites do not display enough political will, deep economic knowledge and policy wisdom to take this country to a higher level. We have identified two crucial challenges for the economy.

First, it is quite obvious that our fixation with building mega dollars industrial parks and hubs is not working.

Malaysia's economic success cannot be solely dependent on industrial parks. What we should do is to focus on enhancing the quality of education in the country. Without a pool of highly skilled labour, it will be difficult for us to attract higher value investment into the country. Malaysia's dependence on low cost foreign labour is a major barrier for innovation.

It is an open secret that this government does not focus on the substance of a good education policy. The whole debate on the use of language has created a diversion from the real problem faced by this country.Until and unless something is being done to enhance, revamp and reorganise the curriculum and the quality of teachers in this country, Malaysia's hope of joining the ranks of high-income countries will remain a mere dream.

Since the last general election, many Malaysians and foreigners are hopeful that this country will change for the better. Many of them will be disappointed to find out that the quality of political discourse has taken yet another dip for the worse.

The opposition coalition has not performed much better either. Constant bickering and open disputes over trivial issues only helped to expose a lack of calibre in their leadership ranks.

Malaysians must make a serious choice on whether they should continue to tolerate current political antics or demand better quality politicians in the next general election.

The use of extreme racial and religious language in the ongoing Permatang Pasir by-election is an indication of what to expect in the next general election.

Race relations in the country could turn for the worse if Malaysians allow themselves to be manipulated and influenced by the propaganda and rhetoric.

Less than capable and tainted politicians will continue to hide behind the race and religious curtain for survival. For those who thought that racism in Malaysia is over after the last general election, they might be disappointed.

The next general election will put Malaysian political maturity to test.Malaysians will find little fault with race and religion if we can agree that good governance and a responsible government is more important.

Mutual respect and acceptance can be nurtured once the blame game stops. The local politics is not only suffering from a devious manipulation of race and religion to score political points but also corruption and abuse of power.

Several scandals e.g. the PKFZ fiasco, thousands of custodial deaths, judicial independence, alleged collusion between the ruling government and the public institutions and others have rocked the country in recent times. Many foreign observers are surprised that many Malaysians have been remarkably resilient and tolerant towards these scandals. Many governments would not have survived even one of the scandals.

Socially, this society is at a crossroads. The ruling government is very aggressive in promoting its new slogan, '1Malaysia'. But as many as 40 percent of Malaysians are not quite sure what it really means.

The government is now considering dropping a race identification tick box from all official forms. This is merely a cosmetic move as a person's race can be easily identified from his/her name.

So far, the ruling government does NOT show any indication that it is serious in eradicating real racial profiling, promoting equality among all Malaysians, respecting democratic rights to assembly and free speech, enhancing democracy and improving its own governance.

Other emerging countries are using the crisis to improve and correct their internal discrepancies. It does not take long for Malaysia to fall behind the pack if the government continues to focus on political contestation and neglecting everything else.

After hearing me, the foreign investor told me he had made up his mind on where to put his money and place his next bet. I hope he is still committed to Malaysia.

UMNO's Race Card proves dicey in Permatang Pasir By-election

Read here for more

As the dust settles on Malaysia's eighth by-election — predictably won by the opposition Pakatan Rakyat — it's become apparent that the prevailing trend has prevailed again.

The Permatang Pasir by-election in Penang was won decisively on Tuesday by PAS, making it a clean sweep of seven by-election wins in Peninsular Malaysia for the opposition alliance since last year's general election. A by-election in Sarawak was won by Barisan Nasional.

PAS candidate Mohd Salleh Man, 52, defeated Umno's Rohaizat Othman, 38, in Permatang Pasir, where the seat fell vacant after the incumbent, a PAS assemblyman, died of a heart attack last month.

An analysis of the voting results indicated again that race or religious rhetoric is a dicey strategy for electoral success.

Analyst Ibrahim Suffian, whose Merdeka Centre does independent polling, said studies have shown that such rhetoric may swing a small percentage of Malay voters, but alienate a far larger number of non-Malay voters.

“It does NOT help to win substantial Malay votes, but it repels others,” he said.

The Permatang Pasir by-election reflected this. Of the 20,000 voters, 72 per cent are Malays, 26 per cent Chinese, almost 2 per cent Indians, and the rest are classified as others.

The PAS candidate took 65 per cent of the total votes, just slightly lower than the 66 per cent in last year's general election.

A look at the racial breakdown showed that PAS' share of Malay votes fell by 3 percentage points, but its Chinese support rose by 6 percentage points.

Political analyst Ong Kian Ming said PAS's Malay support fell from 65 to 62 per cent, but its share of Chinese votes went up from 71 to 77 per cent.

Analysts agree that the ratcheting up of Malay rhetoric had sent the Chinese votes fleeing from Umno. In recent weeks, the Umno-linked Utusan Malaysia newspaper had repeatedly called on the Malays to rise up as they were losing political power.

The death in custody of opposition aide Teoh Beng Hock also stirred anger.

Ibrahim said some of Umno's rallies during the Permatang Pasir by-election were strong on race rhetoric. He noted that as a result, Umno had won some of the older Malay voters.

But significantly, the Chinese had disregarded recent PAS-led measures to enforce Islamic laws more strictly in Selangor. Clearly, the Chinese see PAS as a more moderate party than Umno.

“Umno has cemented its position in public perception as the more extreme,” said Ong.

Going by the eight by-elections, analysts believe that parties which occupy the middle ground in public perception have the best chance of winning seats.

This is because the Malay swing vote tends to be very limited. Ibrahim said the Malay core vote base for PAS and Umno is fairly entrenched.

It's unclear which direction PAS will take now. The party is split between those who want to stick to a multiracial platform, and those who want a stronger Islamic agenda.

This struggle has yet to be resolved. Some within PAS will see the Permatang Pasir win as “a vote for a moderate stance, but some may interpret it as an approval for an Islamic agenda”, said Ibrahim.

UPDATED: Malaysians' Advice to PAS Leadership AFTER Permatang Pasir By-Election Win

UPDATE

Despite being portrayed as a hardline Islamist party, PAS won in ALL Chinese dominated areas in the seat — Sama Gagah, Cross Street and Permatang Pauh — thumping Umno with CLEAR majorities.

In the mainly Chinese areas of Sama Gagah and Cross Street, the Pas candidate won 1397 and 942 votes, compared with 594 and 300 for BN. It is believed that as much as 75 per cent of Chinese vote went to Pas.

Rohaizat and his Umno colleagues should not be surprised that the Chinese are not voting for them. They belong to a party that has ratcheted racialist rhetoric over the past few months, focusing on the Malay vote bank over all others.

If Umno continues its approach of only looking after the interest of Malay/Muslim voters and alienating non-Malays, it will have to obtain more than 60 per cent of the Malay vote in every electoral contest — a near impossible target given the hardcore support Pas enjoys in the Malay heartland.

The fact is that many seats right across West Malaysia are just like Permatang Pasir, mixed constituency wards with a significant Malay majority but with sizeable non-Malay voters.

BN’s campaigning materials depicted had PAS as an extremist group; focusing on Chinese-sensitive issues like the pig abattoir closure in Kedah and beer sales in Selangor to regain much of the lost Chinese votes that went to Pakatan Rakyat in last year’s general election. They have painted PAS as a puppet of the DAP, which rules Penang with PKR, asking the Malays to unite under Umno — be it directly or obliquely through its media — to fight off unreasonable claims by other citizens of the country.

As Utusan’s columnist Noraini Abdul Razak puts it eloquently, this is Umno’s last chance to learn.

Umno has to learn its lessons and put it to good use if its to gain support from the non-Malays. Otherwise, Malaysia will see more racialist rhetoric and Rohaizats out there losing it for Umno.

If Umno continues to encourage saber-rattling talk, wear its arrogance as a badge of honour and believes that it can hammer non-Malays into submission, then it will have to accept that Permatang Pasir will not be a one-off. Read here for more and HERE

PAS has won the Permatang Pasir state seat by-election in Penang today with a majority of 4,551 votes.

PAS candidate 55-year-old candidate Mohd Salleh polled 9,618 votes while BN's Mohd Rohaizat Othman, 38, garnered 5,067.Voter turnout had also decreased this time around to 73 percent. In the previous election, the turnout was 82.6 percent.

PAS actually maintained its share of the votes. In 2008 it was 66.39% and yesterday it was 65.5%, a drop of a mere 0.89%. That is less than 1%.

  1. The PAS leadership does some soul-searching to see if their actions of late have put off a segment of the rakyat who have voted for them.

Voted for them in the belief that PAS is part of the agenda for change, change for a fairer, more just, civil and democractic society.

Not a society based on their extremist interpretation of what is good for all Malaysians!!

  2. With this solid win , the rakyat hope the entire Pakatan Rakyat will work together instead of stabbing each another with racial and religion issues.

PAS , DAP and PKR must remember that it was the Malaysians from all walks of live voted you in.

It was NOT melayu who gave you the win, it was NOT the Chinese ,and definitely NOT the Indians who gave you the win.It was Malaysians who gave you the win.

THIS is also NOT a license to PAS to ban this and that.

We still want the beer, the 4Ds, the massage shops and karaoke.

I go to hell, it is MY problem. Don't worry about me .

Please use religion as a guiding principle and use religion as an example to teach and reach out to the masses.

And yes, congratulations to PR and PAS.

Please work together and discuss problems.

And congratulations to Umno for their consistency in losing.

Disappointment is growing in UMNO/BN with the Permatang Pasir defeat

Excerpts: Read here for more

The result of the Permatang Pasir by election is expected because the candidate chosen by the Barisan Nasional came ready-dented in his personality.

WE live in a time when anything BN is seen with the eye of loathing, even their assistance to the poor were rubbished by the Opposition and gleefully accepted by the constituents.

People in Permatang Pauh feels that BN is not really in touch with their sentiments and concerns. Apparently development is not really a concern and their sentiment against the ruling coalition remains negative as the feel that the party has not done enough to rid itself of corrupt practices and corrupt leaders.

Barisan Nasional entered the Permatang Pasir fray thinking that they had a decent chance of denting PAS’s confidence with issues like beer sale in Shah Alam, infighting in Selangor and fracturing Pakatan Rakyat in Kedah.

From the result, it seems that traditional Umno voters have not returned to support the party in Permatang Pasir, in stark contrast to the near wholesale return of Umno supporters.

The first impression of Rohaizat (by voters) was of a discredited lawyer and someone dishonest to his first wife for marrying a second woman and not telling.

In the final analysis, Barisan Nasional is no nearer to finding the people’s heart and they have just over two more years to figure out how they can continue to be relevant to Malaysia and its politically fast-maturing people.

It is really up to Umno and Barisan Nasional if they want people to weep their passing or to have the party disappear without a single tear shed.

UPDATED: The Malaysian Hypocrites Trying to Protect Islam

ISLAM does NOT need protection by PAS or UMNO members.

But PAS and UMNO members need to be protected BY Islam so that they DON'T disgrace Islam and they DON'T become "kurang ajar" Muslims.

PAS and UMNO members do NOT have the MONOPOLY of truth of Islam. They are nothing more than "interpreters" of Islam to suit their own political agenda and personal greed.

Will the Real PAS Please Stand Up!

by

Art Harun

Excerpts:

For a political party which calls itself Parti Islam Se-Malaysia, PAS is surely one hell of a chameleonic creature.

To say that PAS is pragmatist would be an abuse of that term. In fact, to say that it is chameleon in nature would tantamount to introducing a new specie to that family of lizard.

PAS' real nature is more like the Lernaean Hydra, the fearsome water serpent with NINE heads.

This is a party which is so full of itself.
  • It is filled with people who believe that Islam needs their help and assistance all the time.

  • With people who believe that God is so meek and weak that He needs defending by them.
But the strange thing is this. When situation suits them, these very same people would embrace liberalism and would dance on the same dance floor with the likes of DAP and Anwar Ibrahim's PKR. Not only that, it would have no qualm in entering into a pact - a binding promise the breach of which, in Islam, is a sinful act - with PKR and DAP in order to form a political alliance for the general election. And they would sing liberalism all the way to various state legislative assemblies and even the Parliament.

Well, it is hard for a tiger to lose its stripes. Deep inside and within, PAS is still PAS. History would show that they have jumped in and out of the UMNO bandwagon for the sake of nothing more than political aspirations and desires. It is almost a vehicle for political expediency.

UMNO knows this. Hence the unity government gambit. What if UMNO says to PAS, come and join us and you would get this and that? And a part of this and that is the widening of the Islamist fundamentalism net in Malaysia?

  1. Would PAS refuse?

  2. Would PAS, as is often in the past, fall again to UMNO's seduction?

  3. Would the defenders of Islam in PAS be willing to ditch its own partners - to and with whom PAS is bound through a promise and a pact - and forsake its liberalism song and dance?

  4. Would the temptation prove too strong for these beacon of piety and goodness?
PAS' actions in current days seem to suggest that these defenders of Islam are ready to change tune. In fact, PAS' TRUE colours are showing.

On August the 10th, Zaid Ibrahim announced a start-up common agenda and platform for the three political parties which make up the Pakatan Rakyat. PAS of course is one of them. He started by saying:

"Pakatan Rakyat must firstly unite all Malaysians. We must revive the dreams of Tunku Abdul Rahman and other independence leaders."

Then he went on to say that the PR will establish non-discrimination laws. He said:
"Pakatan must reject the practice of discrimination."
The best was this:
“A Pakatan Rakyat government must be free and not instill fear in the public. It must have an open attitude and accept criticisms. This can only be done by establishing a free and democratic government."
Lofty aspirations indeed.
  • A government which would not instill fear in the public.

  • The establishment of a free and democratic government. I would venture to say that that would entail a government which would protect fundamental liberties of its people.

  • A government which would not stand over the shoulders of its people like some self righteous big brothers, ready to pounce at a whiff of what it perceives as a wrongful and immoral act of its people.

  • A government which respects its people and their choice regardless of whether such choice runs contrary or repugnant to its personal beliefs and practices.
Lofty. And as far as PAS is concerned, unreal too.

And as far as these very Islamic party - who would have no qualm in agreeing to anything as long as it furthers its political agenda - is concerned, these are just words which may be twisted, liberally interpreted and even forgotten when the situation necessitates.

After all, what is so important about promises and pacts when there are other more pressing matters, such as the caning of a woman and the concert by a harmless group called Michael Learns To Rock (to call this group a rock group is in fact an insult to any true blue Mat and Minah Rock!) as well as the policing of the moral of the Muslims in Selangor, which require urgent its attention.

To hell with DAP and PKR. To hell with the pact, promise and common platform of Zaid Ibrahim.

Islam needs defending. And moral needs policing.

Can PAS be trusted? Or is PAS too chameleonic so as to render any attempt at profiling its true political stance and intentions futile?

Will the real PAS please stand up.

The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department's (Jawi) enforcement officers found liable by Court for Insulting the Modesty of Maslinda Ishak

Read here for more by Raja Petra Kamarudin

EXCERPTS:

NST reported: The government has to pay RM100,000 in damages to a former guest relations officer as it was vicariously liable for the act of a Rela member who took a picture of her relieving herself in a lorry.

In allowing the appeal by Maslinda Ishak, the Court of Appeal yesterday said the respondents -- the director-general of Rela, the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department's (Jawi) enforcement officers and the government -- were jointly and severally liable.

On Sept 11 last year, the High Court ordered Mohamad Tahir Osman to pay Maslinda RM100,000 for his conduct in taking the picture six years ago. Judge Datuk Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat said what Tahir did was outside the scope of his duty and he did it purely on his own accord. Therefore, he was wholly responsible for his action on Maslinda, 32, now a dental nurse, which had injured her emotionally.

The incident happened after Maslinda and several colleagues were arrested by Jawi enforcement officers and Rela members during a raid at Kelab De Vegas, Jalan Imbi, here about 11.30pm on March 21, 2003.

After the arrest, they were led into a lorry. At 12.50am, when the vehicle was in Jalan Jejaka 5, Taman Maluri, Cheras, Maslinda asked to go to the toilet but her request was denied. Instead, Maslinda was told to relieve herself inside the lorry. She did exactly that, shielded by a scarf held by her friends, but Tahir then came, pushed her friends away and took her photograph with his camera.

Maslinda brought a RM5 million suit in damages against Tahir, the Rela director-general, Jawi and government.

Actually there was more that did not surface in the court hearing. The Rela officer proposed that if Maslinda were prepared to have sex with him then he would let her go. If not, then they would charge her for the ‘crime’ of working in a place that sells liquor.

Maslinda of course refused and because of that they subjected her to a photography session where she was made to pose in various sexy positions while they photographed her -- sort of like what they do in girlie magazines.

This was an operation headed by the RELIGIOUS AUTHORITIES to arrest all those Muslims working in places that serve liquor. They also got the Rela people involved so that they had enough manpower to conduct the arrests. So it is an operation that was conducted in the name of Islam.

Therefore, photographing the women naked while taking a pee and demanding sex in exchange for getting released smears Islam and gives Islam a bad name. People who did not know any better would think that this is what Islam is all about.

The (UMNO-led) government decided that my article insulted Islam rather than insulted those government officers who hide behind Islam to do their perverted and evil deeds. And, for my crime of ‘insulting Islam’, the Minister, Syed Hamid Albar, detained me without trial under the Internal Security Act and sent me to Kamunting.

There are many Malays who are of the opinion that I am jahil (ignorant) about Islam and that I should be rehabilitated so that my soul can be saved and I can go to heaven. They are adamant that I must go to heaven and they are bent on making sure that I do go to heaven. The only trouble is they do not even know whether they are going to heaven, yet they are so bloody concerned about whether I am going to heaven or not.

Actually, they are very confident that they are going to heaven. That is why they are more concerned about my fate and not worried about their own fate.

I am still accused of insulting Islam. What is important, though, is that justice has finally been served to that very lovely girl named Maslinda Ishak who was wronged by the government.

She may have been a GRO but she was doing an honest job and should not have been photographed naked and asked to consent to sex to secure her release.

And, most important of all, those officers working for the religious department should not have used Islam to satisfy their perverted sexual needs. That is what I whacked. I never whacked Islam.

And I will never stop whacking Muslims who give Islam a bad name. These are the real enemies of Islam, not the Jews. In fact, with the ‘good’ job that the Muslims are doing, the Jews need not do anything. All they need to do is sit back and watch Muslims destroy Islam.

PAKATAN RAKYAT - Its Time to Clean Out the Garbage and the Hidden Frogs

BETTER to have them OUT than to keep them IN,

Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) de facto leader Datuk Anwar Ibrahim conceded flaws in the vetting system of the party during the March 8, 2008 general election which has resulted in problematic state assemblymen and MPs for the party.

Commenting of the resignation of PKR's Lunas state assemblyman Mohd Radzhi Salleh, Anwar said the party has rushed through the names without filtering the list thoroughly.

"In all humility, I concede that we have to improve and ensure that our candidates in future are of good and impeccable quality and loyal to the party's struggles," Anwar said at Kampung Paya here.

Anwar said the party had even warned Mohd Radzhi last month over an investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and also personal problems with his fourth wife who was taking court action against him.

Rekod Buruk Mohd Radzhi (Read HERE for more)

"After he was 'courted' by the MACC, we also found out that former UMNO Kedah menteri besar Datuk Seri Mahadzir Khalid was talking to him and Mohd Radzhi had also tried to influence other PKR state assemblymen to cross over to Umno. We even suspended the Padang Serai PKR division because of him," Anwar said.

He said Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak would seek an audience with the Kedah Sultan to drop him from the exco line-up.

Anwar said it would be advisable for Mohd Radzhi to resign as a state assemblyman.

Read here for more

Pendedahan Siapa Isteri Kedua Calun UMNO Rohaizat Othman

Excerpts: Read here for more

“The candidate’s rivals from PAS have claimed that Rohaizat registered his second marriage to a woman known as ‘Rafizah Mohd Ali’ which the latter has denied.

Rohaizat pula menafikan cerita tersebut dan memberitahu bahawa dia hanya mempunyai seorang isteri yang bernama Khairul Niza Abdul Razak, seorang Pensyarah di Universiti Sains Malaysia Pulau Pinang.

“I don’t have a wife by the name of Hafizah… my wife is Khairul Niza Abdul Razak and I never got married in 2005,” Rohaizat told reporters.

Mohd. Ali.

UPDATED: PAS's Mujahid Yusof Dares Zakhir Mohamed aka BigDog and Ahiruddin Attan aka Rocky's Bru to be " Anak Jantan"

Note: "Anak Jantan" colloquially in Bahasa refers to a person's MANHOOD

Excerpts from Harakah's report

In his blog "The “thirteen million plus Ringgit” guy rambles….", Zakhir Mohamed aka BigDog wrote:

Ahiruddin Attan, owner of Rocky's Bru blog, appointed as Editor -in-Chief of Malay Mail in June 2009, and former President of the National Press Club until 2007, as well as former President of the National Bloggers Alliance, put up a spin on Zakhir Mohamed's allegations in his Rocky's Bru blog:
"...there's now talk about his opponent from PAS and a missing RM600,000 in election funds. The post Calon Pas N11 gelapkan RM60,000? belongs to pro-Umno blogger Zakhir Mohamad but the accusations against Mohd Salleh Man were made by his seniors in PAS, or so we're made to believe..."

Ahiruddin Attan (Rocky's Bru) after a brief spell as a blogger during Abdullah Badawi's tenureship returned to NST group as Editor-in-Chief of Malay Mail in June 2009.

PAS’s Mujahid Yusof Rawa to Rocky & Big Dog : Ko Ni Jantan ke?

Excerpts: Read here for more in People's Parliament blog

Rocky, playing his familiar role as the conduit that carries the sewage from UMNO bloggers out to all in blogosphere, in his post today entitled “PAS candidate and missing funds in Permatang Pasir”, linked a post from UMNO’s running, overweight canine entitled “Calon Pas N11 gelapkan wang parti RM600,000?”.

I’m not going to link either of those posts, as I normally would do, else I, too, would be guilty of contaminating blogosphere with UMNO sludge.

Big Dog accuses, without any substantiation, the PAS candidate in the ongoing Permatang Pasir by-election of having re-routed the sum of RM600,000 that was allocated last year to the PAS election machinery to aid in the Permatang Pauh by-election.

Big Dog’s source? He claims that this serious allegation was made by PAS’ Mujahid Yusof Rawa and Zulkifli Lazim.

Commentator sheikh kecik alerted me to this report in HarakahDaily.Net that has it that Mujahid Yusof Rawa has denied these allegations and called on the perpetrators of these lies to bring forth proof.

Interestingly, a few posts back, Rocky linked a post from that angry blogger who chastised me for launching the sms campaign to alert the voters of Permatang Pasir about the rogue that the BN candidate is.

My sin, it seems, that that angry blogger was pissed off about, and that Rocky saw fit to air in blogosphere, was not quite checking out the full facts before launching that campaign.

I think the events of the last few days bear out who got it right and who got it wrong; who was spinning on hot air and little else and who had checked before writing.

Now, will Rocky and Big Dog rise to the occasion, take up the challenge from Mujahid and display their manhood here in blogosphere?

I just wonder if the matter of the re-routed RM600k was in fact UMNO funds that were intended for the Permatang Pauh by-election last year that got hijacked and that Big Dog got the story all mixed up.

After all, it does seem like such an UMNO thing. And a Big Dog spin!

Anjing Besar menyalak di Permatang Pasir

Read here for more

Biarkanlah dia mengonggong ikut kata tuannya. Tak lama nanti keletihan , menjelirlah lidah busuknya itu!

".....If the content of this (mystery) letter is true, then we must be thankful that there are righteous officers in the MACC who are willing to point out the bad hats in their ranks, whose purpose is only to serve the objectives of their political masters and not the nation....

....I believe there are officers who are religious, compassionate with credible good integrity. Thank you to this person who has thrown leads to the entire investigation. ...My respect and prayers for the whistleblowers in MACC! It takes great courage and a strong sense of decency to do what they have done, for the whistleblowers have everything to lose, and their only possible gain is only to see justice done. May God and the good people of Malaysia protect them!

A mystery letter (see below) in Bahasa Malaysia written by anonymous persons claiming to be “MACC officers” had urged the authorities to probe the Selangor's MACC Deputy Director, Hishamuddin Hashim for involvement in the death of Teoh Beng Hock and for corruption.

The mystery letter, purportly to be written by anonymous MACC officers, says,

The mystery letter as follows: (the highlights are inserted)

ENGLISH TRANSLATION of the above Mystery Letter (reposted from HERE )

BRIBERY, MISCONDUCT AND CORRUPTION OF A SUPERIOR OFFICER OF MACC SELANGOR

Respectfully, we would like to refer to the subject above.

We would like to inform you that we, officers of the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC), feel obliged to expose the misconduct and bribery of a senior officer of the MACC, Deputy Director (DD) MACC Selangor PKPj I Hishamuddin bin Hashim, in connection with the case of TEOH BENG HOCK and another case involving the bungalow of DATO' SERI DR MOHAMAD KHIR BIN TOYO in Section 7, Shah Alam, Selangor.

2. For YBhg Tan Sri/Dato/Tuan/Puan's information, DD was directly involved in the investigations on the fraud case of the Selangor State Government's funds for YB Ean's (ADUN Seri Kembangan) allocation. His involvement was not just on official orders, but he has also given instructions to his subordinates to find, with any means possible, any evidence of wrongdoing by the Selangor State Goverment. He acted in this fashion because he has made a conspiracy with Khir Toyo to topple the government of Selangor. These (gelojoh) actions directly resulted in the death of Teoh Beng Hock. There arise a few suspicious questions that we, officers of the MACC Malaysia, ask on how Teoh Beng Hock could have died. We suspect the DD's involvement in the death of Teoh Beng Hock based on the following:

i) DD had ordered all MACC officers involved in the operation that he not be directly involved in the case. In fact, he was the one who gave all the orders in this operation and other operations in MACC Selangor. In fact, he was afraid to be involved directly because this could expose his conspiracy with Khir Toyo.

ii) The chemical investigators have discovered fingerprints and male DNA on the front side of both sides of Teoh Beng Hock's belt. Based on our, the officers of MACC Malaysia, knowledge, the DD has an individual style of investigative techniques which include interrogating a suspect by holding the front of his belt, lifting him a few times while shaking him.

iii) The process of collecting DNA on MACC Selangor officers was performed in 2 sessions. In the first session of collecting DNA, the DD made every effort to evade giving his DNA sample. The DD was said to have given his DNA sample in the second session, but suspicions arise because the DD gave his DNA sample in the privacy of his own office while all other MACC offiers including the MACC Director have given their DNA samples in a meeting room in the presence of many other individuals. Why did the DD give his DNA sample in a secretive fashion? Was the DNA provided really his DNA? We, the officers of the MACC Malaysia, feel puzzled that there was no one else in the presence of the DD when he allegedly gave his DNA sample? We recommend that the DNA Test on the DD must be done again, witnessed by a group of people who can be trusted.

iv) We have been informed that the DD had ordered his subordinates to erase/clean the fingerprints on the window that Teoh was believed to have fallen from. This was proven when the police could not find any signs of fingerprints, new or old, on the window. The question is, why did the DD order that this be done?

v) We suspect, based on information we have obtained, that the DD did not touch his punch-card when he left the office on the 16th of July 2009, at 6:10 am. This is important because it can prove that the DD was the last person to see Teoh. The question is, why did he not touch his punch-card when he is a person who always touches his punch-card. For the record, he is very diligent with his punch-card.

3. For YBhg Tan Sir/Dato/Tuan/Puan's information, the DD in question is very influential in the enforcement of investigation operations around Selangor and the rest of Malaysia. In MACC Selangor, he is the most important person who decides whether a case should be prosecuted even if the power should rest in the hands of the Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP). His decision is prompted by his personal interests and those of his co-conspirators. So, it is no surprise that he led the MACC Selangor Investigative Unit for decades, at least since the Selangor state government was under the helm of the Barisan Nasional government (Khir Toyo) until now. He was promoted ahead of schedule, from Grade 41 to Grade 54, over the course of 16 years without transfer to other positions or locations other than that of the MACC Selangor. Based on the MACC, any officer who has been promoted or who has worked for more than 5 years in a state should be transferred to a different location to avoid the officer being involved in local bribery. One of the reasons he was never transferred is because he was tasked to "take care of" the position of Dato' Seri Dr Khir Toyo in Selangor. As a result, Khir Toyo also "took care of" his position in Selangor as a favour.

4. As a result of his position in MACC Selangor for these many years, he has been involved in various cases of bribery and misuse of power. Some of the incidents of bribery or misuse of power that we have investigated are as follows:

i) Closing the case of Khir Toyo connected to the approval of a road construction project, in Sekinchan running 20.5 km valued at RM 92.5 million to a contractor that was nearly blacklisted, Meram Holdings. According to the JKR's estimates, the road should have cost less than RM 50 million. The subcontractor that did the work on the project was Cabaran Wangsa, owned by Pua Kim An, the landlord of a house that had once been rented by Khir, while another company director, Ahmad Tarmizi Tajjeury is a Khir crony that was also given 100 acres of land at a profit to him of at least RM 20 million.

ii) Owning assets that exceed his emoluments such as:
a. Owning a few rental houses of which one is a two storey terrace house that was purchased at a favourable price from Pemaju Kumpulan Lebar Daun Development Sdn Bhd, as a result of the closing of the case against the Group Executive Chairman, Dato' Noor Azman @ Noor Hizam bin Mohd Nurdin. The case was investigated by the then BPR Selangor for a few years together with various other houses owned by him. To remove public and subordinate suspicions, he lived in the Government Quarters in Kg Atap, Kuala Lumpur.

b. Owning a Petronas petrol station on the left of the Federal Highway KM 8.6 - 8.7, Section 1, Federal Highway, Shah Alam, 40000 Selangor (near the Melati Roundabout, Shah Alam to Klang bound, registered under the name of his brother. The petrol station only just began operating this year (2009), part of which was built above a Chinese cemetary. He managed to get the site to build the petrol station because of his power, which was exercised in the era of Khir Toyo's government in Selangor.

c. Owning several plots of land around Shah Alam, in which one of them is believed to be beside the new SACC Mall registered under the name of a wife of a MACC Selangor driver named Abdullah b Azim, a full time homemaker in her late 30s.

iii) He has been caught in close proximity (khalwat) with a subordinate officer, Investigator rank, named Nor Azlina bt Mustafa besides the Shah Alam Lake early in 2009 by 2 police officers. He showed his identity card (MACC) and informed the police officers that he and the officer were in the middle of an operation and they were released. These "intimacies" between him and the Investigator were repeated and are common knowledge of many including his own wife. The only action taken by the Department was transferring the officer involved to the MACC Headquarters in Putrajaya. This was not effective because Azlina is still always with the DD in the Selangor office.

5. This letter was written to uphold justice and prevent the further abuse of power especially in the MACC and throughout Malaysia. We in the MACC are fed up to see his antics which have the blessings of the powers that be, like the saying "beraja di mata, bersultan di hati". We in the MACC are at lost in finding departments/institutions/NGOs that can champion this issue so that appropriate actions can be taken.

6. We, the officers of the MACC, are touched and thankful that YBhg Dato'/tuan/puan could expose this issue to the people and the authorities so that an organisation/NGO can take the appropriate action, or an independent investigation, can be taken and raised to the Cabinet. This is very important because it involves the integrity of a serving officer of a department that upholds the laws involving human integrity. The DD is now making every effort to press his subordinates to find any faults involving ruling PKR in the hopes that the PKR-led government will fall in Selangor and his secret will be safe. For your information, the DD is now very afraid whenever news about Dato' Seri Khir Toyo is released in the press and he would be very afraid if the case would expose his involvement.

7. We hope that any brave individuals or organizations can spread this information so that our actions can be brought to the attention of responsible and trusted authorities and that justice can be done. We are unable to do this ourselves because he has a "cable" with the powers that be.

8. Cooperation from YBhg Tan Sri/Dato'/tuan/puan is much appreciated and we hope that through your action, much more information can be brought to light involving individuals with no integrity. We hope that this will cleanse the MACC and its officers from further involvement in bribery and corruption.

Sekian, terima kasih

Malaysiakini's Brief Summary of the Mystery Letter.

EXCERPTS: Read here for more

The mystery letter which emerged at the Teoh Beng Hock inquest yesterday is believed to contain claims connecting a top ranking MACC officer to the interrogation of the political aide, which could have led to his death.

Believed to be written by a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission insider, the letter alleged how the top officer and an influential politician had worked together to start investigations into alleged corrupt practises by Selangor's Pakatan Rakyat leaders.

And it was on this understanding that Teoh was called up for questioning.

The unsigned letter, which carried the MACC official letterhead and written in Bahasa Malaysia, also stated the top officer's modus of interrogation - which involves pulling the suspects by the belt.

It further alleged that the top official was questioning Teoh on the day the DAP man was found dead. However the letter did not state on how Teoh died or if the officer was directly involved in his death.

Further claims made in the letter include:
  • The officer did not punch out from work when he left Plaza Masalam where the Selangor MACC is located on that day. However, the letter stated the time of him leaving the office. This is important as it could show that this officer was the last person to have seen Toeh on that day, alleged the letter.
  • The officer did not provide his DNA samples along with his other colleagues. He only gave a sample privately at a later day.
  • That he ordered his officers to wipe clean the window from where Teoh had apparently fallen from.
  • His alleged corrupt practices while investigating previous cases and that he is generally corrupt.
  • He had helped close an investigation on the politician.

The letter also stated that the top officer had been serving in the state for a long time, well beyond the usual five-year term for high ranking officials.

The letter also claimed that he was living beyond his means by having several houses, a petrol station in Shah Alam and several plots of land, courtesy of the politician's goodwill.

He was also allegedly caught for khalwat with his junior officer at the Shah Alam lake early this year.

MACC Selangor Deputy Director Hishamuddin Hashim was the last person to have seen Teoh Beng Hock Alive

On 5th August, Malaysian Insider reported:

The last man believed to have seen Teoh Beng Hock alive was seen leaving the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office here at 6.10am on the same day the DAP political aide’s body was later discovered, the coroner’s court was told today by lawyer Tan Hock Chuan.

The man, MACC officer Hishamuddin Hashim, was among a number of anti-graft officers identified by security guards from closed circuit television cameras (CCTV) photographs leaving and entering the building.

Security guard Abd Rahman Rahim, who was manning the lobby floor counter the same day Teoh’s body was found dead sprawled on a fifth floor balcony of the building, was the last witness. He had successfully identified two out of three men snapped as they were leaving the building from a series of CCTV photographs as MACC officers.

He recognised the third officer, who was later revealed to be the deputy director of the Selangor MACC (HISHAMUDDIN HASHIM) and even named the first officer, whom he knew casually, as “Ashraf”. Read here for more
