King of Thailand Honours Buddhist Temple in Kelantan

Kelantan has the honour of having the FIRST Malaysian Buddhist Temple to be honored by Thailand's King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

Wat Pikulthong located in Tumpat district will be given the prestigious Royal Kathin Award from the Thai king. The award comprised of the royal Kathin robes and RM50,000 in donations.

For Kelantan's Wat Pikulthong, it is the first to be conferred on a Malaysian Buddhist temple by the King of Thailand.

According to Thai Consul-General Surapon Petch-Vra, the Royal Kathin Award is part of the Buddhist merit-making ritual and usually given to ordained monks at Buddhist temples throughout Thailand and abroad.

The presentation of the award to the temple will made by Thailand’s former Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Tej Bunnag during a two-day ceremony beginning tomorrow.

Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat and Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Minister Datuk Mustapa Mohamed are expected to attend the ceremony.
