"Ketuanan Melayu" is a Myth Concocted by UMNO and Has Become a Sick Joke Among Malaysians

Read here the offending article "Syed Hamid: Bukan 'jenaka yang boleh dipermainkan'" in Mingguan Malaysia

The Umno-owned Mingguan Malaysia (the weekend paper of Utusan Malaysia ) ran a banner headline (30 November) with the words "Do not question" (Ketuanan Melayu).

Umno leaders (particularly Home Affairs Minister, Syed Hamid Albar, a wannabe-Malay but who is essentially of Arab descent ) said Ketuanan Melayu was not a joke to be taken lightly in reference to a comment by MCA Deputy President Dr Chua Soi Lek. Read here for more in Malaysian Insider . Mingguan Malaysia reported:

"...Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar menegaskan....bahawa perkara berkaitan ketuanan Melayu bukanlah 'jenaka yang boleh dipermainkan'...."

We say to Utusan Malaysia and to UMNO, "Why NOT ?"

  1. Firstly, the phrase or the very idea of Ketuanan Melayu does not exist in the Federal Constitution, and thus has no legal standing or force.

  2. Secondly, Ketuanan Melayu is a blatant racist concept that has no moral justification to be injected into the national psyche. It goes against basic human sensibilities and an affront to our decency as citizens of a multiracial society. The concept of Ketuanan Melayu is synonymous with the abhorrent and rejected concept of APARTHEID (a separatist structure based on the supremacy of the whites over the blacks of South Africa).

  3. Thirdly, Ketuanan Melayu is NOT an Islamic concept, and totally out of sync with the teachings of Islam. As a matter of fact, it is un-Islamic for the Malays, as Muslims, to claim RACIAL supremacy. The "Ummah" has NO racial divide. Thus it is hypocritical for the UMNO ultra-Malays, while at the same time to claim themselves as Muslims, to propagate this morally offensive myth.

  4. Fourthly, Ketuanan Melayu was never devised as a constitutional mandate for the Council of Malay Rulers. The protection of Islam and the the Malays' special position under the Constitution have nothing to do with UMNO's racial supremacist ideology wrapped in the Ketuanan Melayu myth. Any attempt by UMNO ultra-Malays to link Ketuanan Melayu myth to the role and function of the Malay Rulers and the Agung, as the royal heads of state for citizens of all races, is political mischief and a direct insult to the respected status of the Malay Rulers.

  5. Fifthly, never in the history of the great Malay race in this region has this arrogant idea of Ketuanan Melayu embedded in its culture. It was never part of the refined culture of the Malays, then and now. Certainly it has NO place in the Malay culture. No decent Malay individual in the country today, in his/her heart of hearts would even countenance such a culturally arrogant and offensive idea.

What Malaysians are finding it absurd (and surprising to ethnic Malays and other Non-Malays) is that this harping of Ketuanan Melayu comes from someone in UMNO of Arab descent such as the Home Minister Syed Hamid Albar, as well as some UMNO Indian Muslims, such as the former Bukit Bendera UMNO Division Chief Ahmad Ismail, who, claiming to be a Malay, subscribe to this racist Ketuanan Melayu idea.

    Arab-descent

    Indian Muslim-descent from India

  6. Sixthly, Ketuanan Melayu is a political gimmick created and propagated by UMNO to hem in the Malay populace so as to remain in power at all costs. A myth concocted by the UMNO-ultra Malays during the years of the Mahathir regime when UMNO thought it is the one and only saviour of the Malay race in Malaysia.

There is nothing in the concocted myth of Ketuanan Melayu that is sacrosanct and thus it is par for the course for Malaysians to have discussions in the public domain. What it means is that UMNO ultra-Malays simply have to deal with their own emotions and come to terms with their self-inflicted sensitivities if they cannot handle the debate/discussions on the worthlessness of Ketuanan Melayu to the general wellbeing of the Malay community and to the social fabric of our nation. As they say, "Go sulk in your own little corner."

Thus, it is within every right of Malaysians to question Ketuanan Melayu since it is a concocted myth by UMNO to enhance its negative racial politics to divide and rule multi-racial Malaysians.

We re-emphasise our view: Ketuanan Melayu is a mirage created by UMNO that is devoid of any factual basis, and without any legal, moral or religious standing. It should rightly be treated very lightly, or better still, as one of UMNO's many sick jokes to hoodwink the Malays and other Malaysians.

No amount of intimidation or threats by Utusan Malaysia or UMNO leaders will prevent rationally-minded Malay, Chinese or Indian Malaysians to debate or even question the concocted myth of Ketuanan Melayu of UMNO.

Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat had said Islam was a religion above race, so it was wrong to identify Malays with Islam as there were also Chinese and Indian who were Muslims. It was for this reason, he said, that he disagreed with the Ketuanan Melayu (Malay supremacy) ideology because in Islam there was NO emphasis on race. Read here for more

We DO NOT normally subscribe to the politics of MCA, but in this case, we agree fully with the views of MCA Deputy President Chua Soi Lek.

We share the same view as Dr. Chua Soi Lek that , firstly, Malaysians of all races have generally accepted Malay political leadership but that does not mean acceptance of the obnoxious supremacist idea of Ketuanan Melayu. Secondly, the ruling parties in Government should focus on NATIONAL issues NOT RACIAL ISSUES.

The problem today in the country is the entrenched tendency of this UMNO-Government to have public funds and services sorted by column headings of Malay, Chinese, Indian,Ibans, Dayaks, etc.

The MCA President Ong Tee Keat has shown he is a spineless and a self-indulgent leader in not supporting his Deputy President when the latter is being harassed unfairly by UMNO and the Mingguan Malaysia paper for speaking out what most Malaysians and particularly MCA grassroot members are saying about Ketuanan Melayu.

UMNO has not learnt the lessons of March 8 election, nor has Ong Tee Keat fully understood the frustrations of Chinese voters against the previous MCA leadership and its dominant partner, UMNO.

We ask, why shouldn't Malaysians question UMNO's myth about Ketuanan Melayu? Why should Malaysians fear the threat and intimidation? Another UMNO-inspired riot? ISA?

Malaysians have moved on to seek a more inclusive national agenda since March 8, 2008.

We say to UMNO, STOP this crap about Ketuanan Melayu. It is a myth and YOU know that.

For as long as UMNO leaders persist on harping on Ketuanan Melayu, we and ALL decent-minded Malaysians will continue to question its existence and its worthlessness to nation-building.

Here are what Malaysians think of the myth of Ketuanan Melayu

Must Read ! A History Lesson for Our Blinkered Historian, Mohd Misan Mastor: Struggle for Merdeka Was NOT an Exclusive MALAY Affair !

Read here full article by Raja Petra Kamarudin in Malaysia-Today

Mohd Misan Mastor holds the position of Negeri Sembilan History Association Treasurer. He accused Raja Petra as being ignorant of history for assuming Chin Peng, was a freedom fighter.

He then challenged Raja Petra to "prove that the independence of the country was due to the efforts of OTHERS."

Raja Petra responded by posting a chapter from a book written by Mustapha Hussain entitled, "MALAY NATIONALISM BEFORE UMNO: THE MEMOIRS OF MUSTAPHA HUSSAIN", specifically to Chapter 34, "PUTERA-AMCJA Conference (1947)" (Read below the article or read HERE )

    Commentary by Raja Petra:

The fight for Merdeka started BEFORE the Second World War and continued all through the Japanese Occupation of Malaya.

After the War, all the races, members of the Communist Party of Malaya (CPM) INCLUDED, joined hands to fight for Merdeka.

Only when the British refused to accept the Malayans’ terms for Merdeka did the CPM take to the jungles to continue their opposition to the British. But it was not only the members of the CPM who took to the jungles. Many non-Communists did as well and they filled the ranks of the CPM guerrillas.

The struggle for Merdeka was NOT an exclusive Malay affair but an effort by ALL the races, as the following piece shall show. It cannot be denied that, before that, many Malays did oppose the British and some died because of it.

But it was not until the Second World War, during the Japanese Occupation, when the idea of Merdeka was finally taken to a higher level of a united Malaya or Federation of Malaya -- a Federation comprising of the Straits Settlements, Federated Malay States and Unfederated Malay States.

Before that, all the states were independent of one another and NO nation, as we know today, existed.

I therefore read with some interest an obituary of (John Davis) which appeared in the Times on 7 November 2006 and (who was) involved in the whole of that campaign throughout Malaya from 1947 to 1960.

It told the story of how he had worked behind the Japanese lines in Malaya in 1943 - 45. In this role John Davis worked with Chin Peng and organised the air drop of supplies including arms and ammunition into the jungle.

At the end of the war Davis remained in Malaya joining the Special Branch.

Chin Peng was awarded the OBE for his services and took part in the Victory Parade in London.

When Malaya was not granted immediate independence in 1946, the Communist Party of Malaya, led by Chin Peng began a terrorist campaign which lasted until 1960."

Chin Peng is Malaya's Ho Chi Minh, but a Ho Chih Minh manqué.

"...It seems that some are in danger of forgetting the whole lesson of Merdeka.

They could be forgiven for having done so, because from the way the story of Malaysia's independence is told by some within the dominant United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), you might think the Malay community secured independence on its own; driving the perfidious British into the sea.
      It is NOT true.

Indeed the one surviving key player from the independence struggle is NOT Malay at all.

He is Malaysian Chinese, and he is not welcome in the land of his birth. Chin Peng was once Malaysia's most wanted man.

Chin Peng, leader of the Communist Party of Malaya, did as much as anyone to bring about Malaya's independence.

With 5-10,000 armed guerrillas he tied down tens of thousands of Commonwealth troops in a ruinously expensive war
      .

"If there hadn't been a boom in rubber and tin prices in the 1950s, the British wouldn't have been able to afford to fight him," said Khoo Kay Kim, emeritus Professor of History at University Malaya.

What the communists did was to focus British minds on a political settlement.

Up stepped the leaders of the Alliance, which consisted of three parties - UMNO, the Malayan Chinese Association (MCA) and the Malayan Indian Congress (MIC) - between them representing the Malay peninsula's three main races. ..."

      Chapter 34: PUTERA-AMCJA Conference (1947)

By the grace of God, through the PUTERA-AMCJA Conference, I was given a second opportunity to participate in efforts towards drafting Malaya’s Independence Constitution.

The first time had been in July 1945, through the Japanese-sponsored Hodosho and KRIS, at a time when Japan was like a dragon in its death throes, struggling against the Allied onslaught. There were two differences.

My first effort had been with Dr Burhanuddin, who had served the Japanese Sumatra-Malaya Military Administration in Taiping while I was a farmer. Then, there had been only five Malay States; this time, there were nine.

On 22 December 1946, multi-ethnic, but mainly NON-Malay leftist political bodies in Malaya formed a coalition called the All-Malayan Council of Joint Action (AMCJA). Its members comprised:

      1. Malayan Indian Congress (MIC) – led by John Thivy,
      2. Malayan Democratic Union (MDU) – led by John Eber,
      3. New Democratic Youth League (NDYL),
      4. Malayan People’s Anti-Japanese Ex-Comrades Association (MPAJECA),
      5. Pan-Malayan Federation of Trade Unions (PMFTU).

Four months later, on 22 February 1947, left-wing Malay parties formed their own coalition during a meeting at the MNP Head Office in Kuala Lumpur. It was called Pusat Tenaga Rakyat (PUTERA) or the Centre for People’s Power. Led by Ishak Haji Muhammad (Pak Sako), the member parties were:

      1. Malay Nationalist Party, MNP as its nucleus – led by Dr Burhanuddin

      2. Angkatan Pemuda Insaf, API (Generation of Aware Youth) – led by Ahmad Boestamam

      3. Angkatan Wanita Sedar, AWAS (Generation of Conscious Women) – led by Shamsiah Fakeh

      4. Gerakan Angkatan Muda, GERAM (Young Generation Movement) – led by Aziz Ishak and A. Samad Ismail

      5. Barisan Tani Se Malaya, BATAS (Pan-Malayan Farmers/Peasants Front) – led by Musa Ahmad,

      6. Majlis Agama Tertinggi SeMalaya, MATA (Pan-Malayan Supreme Religious Council).

While travelling all over North Malaya with Dr Burhanuddin, we had discussed, at great length, the forthcoming PUTERA-AMCJA Conference, consisting of left-wing Malay and NON-Malay political parties, to promote our demand for Independence from the British through constitutional means.

Most post-war non-Malay unions and political parties were left-leaning. MNP was the only Malay political party which, even as early as 1946, had realised that Independence could NOT be achieved unless the demand was unanimously made by the three major communities in Malaya – the Malays, the Chinese and the Indians.

UMNO, led by Datuk Onn bin Jaafar, had yet to fathom this reality, and continued to function as if it was still in pre-war Malaya. In 1951, six years after the war ended, an UMNO-led delegation went to London to demand more Malayan Civil Service officers, more Malay police officers, especially above the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), and improvements in Malay education and other issues. Yet NOT ONE mention of Merdeka (Independence) was made.

Ironically, it was also in 1951 that Datuk Onn began to realise that the co-operation of NON-Malays was VITAL for obtaining INDEPENDENCE.

As mentioned earlier, Ishak Haji Muhammad had been earlier sent by Dr Burhanuddin to Kuala Lumpur to meet AMCJA representative Gerald de Cruz to initiate arrangements for PUTERA and AMCJA to work hand in hand in our struggle against the British. The resulting draft, The People’s Constitutional Proposals for Malaya, was the document Ishak Haji Muhammad had handed to Dr Burhanuddin and me at the end of our two-day Balik Pulau visit. Ishak said, “This is all I managed to achieve. If something is unsatisfactory, please bring it up at the forth- coming PUTERA-AMCJA meeting.”

We promised to go over the draft on our way back to Kuala Lumpur. Ishak left before we could even invite him to a meal. Dr Burhanuddin commented, “Ishak is like that. He is a man of few words.” I suspected a slight tension between Dr Burhanuddin and Ishak then; they could hardly bring themselves to talk to each other.

I was willing to play the role of the mediator. However, there were four things that kept the two connected: the struggle, the party, the Malay race and the nation. Nothing could keep the two men apart with these four elements present.

The clauses proposed by AMCJA and MDU were for:

      1. Malaya and Singapore to be united.
      2. A popularly elected Federal Consultative Council.
      3. Equal citizenship rights to be accorded to all those who considered Malaya their permanent home and the object of their undivided loyalty.
      4. The Malay sultans to become constitutional monarchs. The British would no longer have the right to interfere or advise the Malay sultans. The popularly elected Federal Consultative Council would be exclusively responsible for all such advice.
      5. Islam and Malay customs would be fully controlled by the Malay people through a special council, not by the sultans.
      6. Special privileges for the advancement of Malays in all fields.

Having read the draft, I was certain that if the leftist Malay parties accepted the draft in toto, the parties would lose credibility, influence and support. However, in the draft’s preamble I saw a loophole in the words ‘the Nine Malay States’. I drew Dr Burhanuddin’s attention to the word ‘Malay’. If we ‘used’ this loophole wisely, the Malays would gain substantially. During the tiresome mail train ride from Penang to Kuala Lumpur, Dr Burhanuddin was happy with one boiled egg, a banana and a cup of coffee. I had to supplement that with a plate of fried rice from the buffet coach. Food was important to me.

As I had mentioned, as soon as we arrived in Kuala Lumpur from North Malaya, we looked for lawyer John Thivy at his High Street office. He was MIC’s Secretary-General, while Budd Singh was President; both were socialists. Thivy, being from a notable Kuala Kangsar family, fully understood Malay customs and aspirations. He confided in us that the Indian community shared a common fear with the Malays – that of being drowned by the Chinese. He therefore promised to support all proposals beneficial to the ‘safety’ of the Malays and Indians. I believe Thivy left MIC when it leaned to the right; I am told he is now in Fiji.

Before attending the PUTERA-AMCJA Conference, we Malays met in the rented Kampung Baru home of Ibrahim Karim, API’s Secretary- General. We drank black coffee out of a pail for lack of proper utensils. It was bought with the paltry balance of money collected from our garland-auctions and the sale of photographs of Dr Burhanuddin and Ibrahim Yaakub. Disappointingly, the photos were not selling. No one bought the one of Ibrahim, although he was then deemed a Malay hero.

We took a bus to a five-storey building in Foch Avenue, the highest building in Kuala Lumpur at the time, where the MCP flag fluttered inthe wind. However, the conference was not held on the floor housing the MCP’s headquarters. Desks were arranged in a circle. Dr Burhanuddin sat rigidly, with me on his left, and Taha Kalu on his right.

John Eber (MDU) was on Taha’s right and farther on, beside John Eber, were Ahmad Boestamam (API), Lim Kean Chye (MDU) and John Thivy (MIC). Ishak sat opposite me with Conference Secretary Gerald de Cruz (MDU) on his left while Sir Cheng Lock Tan (AMCJA) dressed in a shirt and coat ensemble sans tie, sat on Ishak’s right.

On Sir Cheng Lock Tan’s right were representatives from the New Democratic Youth League (NDYL), Malayan People’s Anti-Japanese Ex-Comrades Association (MPAJECA) and Cheng Loo from the Pan-Malayan Federation of Trade Union (PMFTU) – all very young men. They were probably the front men or dummies. Everyone held a draft of The People’s Constitutional Proposals for Malaya. Mine was full of markings, reflecting my pre-occupation during the train journey.

The PUTERA-AMCJA Conference began with a speech by Ishak as Chairman. We had to tread carefully; no undesirable elements should come into play lest an ugly impasse rear its head. Nothing untoward must happen to jeopardise our efforts to gain the nation’s Independence. We had to be of one heart; bickering would only contribute to prolonged British rule.

Even the normally vocal and aggressive Ahmad Boestamam was extraordinarily impassive. Everyone adopted a passive attitude, a patient disposition, a tolerant demeanour, a peaceful mind and a united stance. Everyone wanted an end to British rule. Everyone craved to live in a free Malaya. Chairman Ishak was extremely careful in choosing his words and ministering his responsibilities. The only one who spoke more shrilly than the rest was Conference Secretary Gerald de Cruz, who was known for his humour and jest. All the six items were endorsed with ease. I noticed that the representatives from the NDYL, MPAJECA and PMFTU hardly uttered a word, just like Sir Cheng Lock Tan.

On behalf of PUTERA, I proposed four more clauses to strengthen our rights, referring to the magic phrase ‘the Nine Malay States’ already in the preamble as proof of PUTERA’s absolute right to claim them:

      a. Malay to be Malaya’s national and official language,
      b. Malaya’s defence and foreign policies be handled by the Malayan and British Governments with equal responsibility,
      c. Melayu (Malay) as the nationality of the people of Malaya,
      d. The National Flag would have a red band above a white one.

Clauses (a) and (b) were quickly endorsed with the support of NDYL, MPAJECA and PMFTU representatives who abhorred colonialism. But clause (c) raised the conference room’s temperature. The same degree of unrest was experienced each time the Malays demanded a 60-40 quota in the running of the administration and in employment.

Sir Cheng Lock Tan vehemently opposed demand (c) while the three young men looked calm enough.

I stood up to voice my disappointment at the opposition, drawing their attention to one question. How would hundreds of thousands of Malays – supporters of MNP, API and AWAS in the kampungs – react, should PUTERA announce that ‘Malayan’ and not ‘Melayu’ would be the term used to describe the people’s nationality? They would probably charge at us like bulls provoked by a red cape. Leftist Malay parties would be ruined, much to the glee of the British and right-wing Malay parties.

Even though I had presented my case with great care, Lim stood up and remarked, “We are not dogs to be led by the people. We lead the people.” In response to such strong words, I retorted in a flash, “Are you not here at this conference table because the people chose you? Do not humiliate the people. You ought to retract your words.”

I then saw Conference Secretary de Cruz write something on a large piece of paper and hold it up for all to see. On the paper was written “CRACK” in big, bold letters. Chairman Ishak wisely proposed the matter be handled by a sub-committee later that evening and its decision be announced the next day. The sub-committee met that night in Kampung Baru over a Malay dinner of rice and tapioca shoot vegetable curry, during which time a PUTERA representative managed to positively influence members who had opposed the proposal to describe our nationality as ‘Malay’.

We had asked, “What is wrong with using the term ‘Malay’ to describe our nationality? If this request is denied, we can only deduce that colonial elements have infiltrated this conference, and that colonialists are still in control.” Gerald de Cruz loved Malay food. Perhaps the tapioca shoot vegetable curry contributed to the agreement that ‘Malay’ will be the agreed nationality of the people. I was glad that the matter had not split up the conference.

Actually, the Malay nationality proposal was won due to the votes of the three Chinese youths. They were the first ones to be convinced by our little speech and appeals.

On the second day of the PUTERA-AMCJA Conference, API leader Ahmad Boestamam, who was honoured with the final vote, gave PUTERA the winning edge. With that victory, I felt that the Malay states and the Malay race would be forever preserved. In Hang Tuah’s words, “The Malays will not perish from this earth.”

Next in the discussion was the question of citizenship. AMCJA had proposed the jus soli concept, but PUTERA found it difficult to accept. However, Taha Kalu seemed to agree with jus soli. As he sat near me, I raised my fist as if to warn him, “Should you support this jus soli concept, I will punch you.”

To my relief, he voted in support of PUTERA. Despite some frantic hand signalling, Ahmad Boestamam – who sat at a distance from me – did not understand my signals. He chose AMCJA’s stand. I said to myself, “Allah! What will happen now?”

The AMCJA won and we were in deep trouble. My mind quickly came up with an idea to overcome the matter. Pretending not to know the meaning of ‘amendments’, I asked the chairman to define the term. Then, I asked what ‘clause’ meant. I pretended not to know these words so as to allay the fear of the others.

I then proposed a ‘clause’ be included to determine the quota for Malays and non-Malays in all Federal Councils and in all government business. I wanted a restriction or a certain formula in the Malay and non-Malay sharing.

Conference secretary Gerald de Cruz commented on my proposal as sweetly as he could. He said he had anticipated it. He explained that if the ‘universal franchise’ policy was adopted, the Malays should get 95 per cent of the vote and 95 per cent of all seats and posts. The other conference members were taken in. Chairman Ishak could not do much as his hands were tied.

Dr Burhanuddin’s mouth was shut tight, as the conference was conducted in English. Earlier, when the ‘national language’ issue was being discussed, non-Malay members had asked for a compromise, “Please give us ten years to master the Malay Language.” In view of this, how could we compel them to use Malay at the conference?)

I stood up, stating with great care that, “We Malays do not want 95 per cent as that is unjust. We do not want 80 per cent as that would be unfair. Neither do we want 80 per cent or 70 per cent. But in the name of all Malays who own this land, we want 60 per cent. We ask for only 60 per cent because we are holding fast to the concept of democracy. At the same time, we want to preserve the rights of the people of this land.”

I was shouted at by the MDU leader, the lawyer John Eber. He snarled, “I did not want to say anything harsh earlier, but now, I have to. The truth is, your people do not have the right to claim Independence – what more to obtain other people’s help to appeal on your behalf.”

He added, “We are the ones who are willing to work with you and help you claim it. Now you want to determine the quota for yourselves and for us?”

He paused and continued, “I am standing here to promote my party principles and one of them is democracy.” Before sitting down, he pointed his finger at me and asked clearly, “Is he democratic?”

I was forced to stand up another time to respond to his words. I forgot how to remain calm and collected. I had forgotten about compromise and co-operation. Luckily, I remembered Sutan Jenain’s words, “Be hot in the heart, but not in the head.”

With whatever was left of my composure, I said, “Look at the appearance of PUTERA members, the Malays, at this conference. Their hair uncombed, clothes unkempt and not ironed. Some did not have a chance to wash as they slept in bus stations and train stations in order to attend this conference. Some did not even have breakfast. They drank coffee out of a pail. But you, sir (looking at John Eber), even though you were given a comfortable rattan chair, you still need a folded towel to serve as a cushion. Who among us truly needs Independence, you or us?”

John Eber got up to pull the folded towel off his chair. His face was red with anger. He was enraged, but I could not care less. An insult for an insult!

The Chairman stood up to calm the situation and again suggested the quota issue be discussed by a sub-committee. The outcome was positive. AMCJA agreed to the 60-40 quota. I was thankful to God for His blessings.

The Malay States and the Malay people were now secure and safe. This would maintain Malay pre-eminence. The outcome would guarantee the future of the Malays, especially in a situation where non-Malay votes may outnumber Malay votes.

I must add that MIC John Thivy in the AMCJA kept his word by giving us his vote every time, to our mutual benefit.

      Outcome

The ten principles we discussed came to be known as the Ten People’s Principles, to represent all communities. Since The People’s Constitutional Proposals for Malaya was endorsed and announced to the nation, the PUTERA-AMCJA partnership was reinforced because the masses, not the administrators and the elite, were strongly behind us.

The final copy of The People’s Constitutional Proposals for Malaya was sent to the British Government as the voice of the different communities living in Malaya who clamoured for Independence. The people’s response to the constitution was proof of their spirit.

But the British appeared unconcerned, refusing to hold discussions with us, or even to read the constitution, as if nothing urgent was happening.

We had to think of our next constitutional move. As a result, the hartal of October 1947 was organised and received widespread support from the people. Shops and business houses shut their doors. Kuala Lumpur looked deserted.

      What the Dailies Wrote

I don’t remember what the Malay papers wrote. Majlis was certainly in opposition to the hartal as it was wary of any co-operative efforts by the three races.

But the 23 September 1947 edition of The Straits Times described the hartal as: The first attempt to put Malayan party politics on a plane higher than that of rival racial interests and also the first attempt to build a political bridge between the domiciled non-Malay communities and the Malay race”.

The other English language newspaper editorials also found The People’s Constitutional Proposals for Malaya generally fair.

      Conclusion

The PUTERA-AMCJA effort was my third attempt to gain Independence. I had failed in all three but I continued to work towards loosening the colonial grip on Malaya and freeing Malaya from British fetters. With that uppermost in my mind, I decided to continue fighting for the cause with Dr Burhanuddin. As that required my staying on in Kuala Lumpur, I felt that it was time I brought my family (whom I had left for months in Matang) to join me in Kuala Lumpur.

Std 6 Assessment Exam (UPSR) Passing Mark for English, Mathematics and Science lowered to only 20 %

Read below or here full article on Tumpang Sekole Blog

According to information received by Blogger "Tumpang Sekole", the passing mark for the three subjects, English, Science and Mathematics was pegged at 20 % (twenty percent) for the Primary School Evaluation Test, generally called UPSR (Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah), a national examination taken by Standard 6 pupils.

If this is true, it is scandalous!

A PASSING MARK of 20 % for the important subjects of Science and Mathematics creates a false sense of success and achievement. It means to a layman, that a pupil's success is judged when he/she is required to answer correctly ONLY TWO out of TEN questions.

How are we as a nation, if we are still aiming to be a member of the FIRST WORLD community by 2020, going to compete, let alone with the rest of the world, with our southern neighbour, Singapore in this technologically-savvy age?

We ask, what in the world is our Education Minister, that infamous keris-wielding Minister, thinking in allowing his bureaucrats in his Ministry to fool around with the education of our young?

In a NST article (15 Nov 2008), Education Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein was reported as saying the UPSR results proved that the government policy of using English to teach Mathematics and Science was not a flop.

Hishammuddin added that the ministry's initial analysis of this year's UPSR results revealed that the achievement of all candidates was BETTER compared with the national average of the past five years' results.

(Photo courtesy of Tumpang Sekole Blog)

This year's UPSR pupils formed the pioneer batch which was taught Mathematics and Science in English right from Year One in 2003.

The Ministry of Education introduced in 2002 the PPSMI (Pengajaran Dan Pembelajaran Sains Dan Matematik) policy in which Science and Mathematics will be taught in English. Full implementation of PPSMI for Primary Schools was targeted in 2008 and for Secondary Schools 2007.

Analysis of the 2008 UPSR results showed:

      • A 4.4 per cent INCREASE in the number of pupils who scored As in ENGLISH.

      • a 4.8 per cent INCREASE of pupilswho scored A, B or C in the English language.

      • 46.6 per cent of pupils chose to answer the Mathematics paper in English

      • 31.1 per cent of pupilswere confident enough to tackle the Science paper in English.

      • Performance in the Science subject ONLY dipped by 0.7 per cent compared with the average over the last five years.

      • An INCREASE in the number of pupils scoring As in all subjects.

      • Of the 518,616 pupils, 46,641 passed with flying colours.
If the passing mark is pulled down to as low as 20%, then all these statistics hatched out by the Government are of little value in the real world.

It is no wonder that our education system, from the primary school to the university, had been badly compromised for some obnoxious reasons, if not political.

It is to the detriment to the future of our children, who we put into our national schools to be educated properly, to then allow our bureacrats to manipulate their academic performance, simply in order to fulfill some political reasons.

Worst of all, it further damages the reputation of the country and the integrity of our school children and university graduates.

Apa kata Pak Menteri Hishamuddin? Bolehkah dia menjawab mistri (mystery) ini.......

National Fatwa Council Ticked Off by Selangor Sultan on Issuing Fatwas Without Clearing with Council of Malay Rulers

Read here article in International Herald Tribune

      Excerpts: Read here for more

Before banning Muslims from performing yoga, the National Fatwa Council should have first consulted the country's nine hereditary sultans who are considered upholders of Islam here, Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah said Monday.

The Agong is seen as the supreme upholder of Malay tradition and symbolic head of Islam, while the sultans occupy that position in their own respective states.

The unprecedented comment bordering on rebuke by Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah exposes the deep divisions caused by the Fatwa Council's edict in this Muslim-majority country against yoga, a form of Indian exercise, breathing technique and mind control popular worldwide.

It is the first time that a Fatwa Council's decision has been criticized by a state sultan — a sign that the country's Malay Muslims, who are 60 percent of the 27 million population, have not accepted the fatwa uniformly.

The Selangor Sultan said he hopes "that in future, any fatwa decision that touches on issues involving the general public should be referred to the Conference of Rulers to be approved first before it is announced. This is to ensure that the process of channeling the fatwa decision is implemented wisely to avoid any confusion and controversy. "

The National Fatwa Council headed by Abdul Shukor Hj Husin said Saturday that yoga is rooted in Hinduism and its practice could corrupt Muslims. The edict angered many ordinary Muslims who said they have been performing yoga for years without losing their faith.Decisions by the Fatwa Council are not legally binding on the country's Muslims until they are enshrined in national laws or Shariah laws of individual states.

The fatwa on yoga reflects the growing influence of conservative Islam in Malaysia, a multiethnic country where minority ethnic Chinese and mostly Hindu ethnic Indians have been clamoring for more rights.

Recently, the Fatwa Council said girls who act like boys violate Islam's tenets.

The government has also occasionally made similar conservative moves, earlier this year banning the use by non-Muslims of the word "Allah," the Arabic word for God.

Don't Do Yoga, It Weakens Your Strength and Beliefs in Islam, the Guardians of Islam in Malaysia Tell Malaysian Muslims

"...A couple years ago I returned to yoga while keeping up my Islamic practice. How are these two developments related? How do they interact?

When I returned to the practice of yoga, I found that it is easily integrated with the Islamic life; in fact the two assist one another. Not only is there no conflict, but Islam and yoga together make a mutually beneficial synergy.

Both are agreed that, while the body is important as a vehicle on the way to spiritual realization and salvation, the human being's primary identity is not with the body but with the eternal Spirit.

It can be valid and beneficial for Muslims to learn yoga, not as their spiritual path per se, but as a valuable adjunct to the spiritual path of Islam. Islam is a complete, integral spiritual path, so yoga is no substitute for any Islamic requirement.
The Prophet said that wisdom is the believer's stray camel: wherever he finds it he will recognize it (and claim his right to it).

How to explain the many points of correspondence between yoga and Islam? There are close similarities between Islam and yoga not because of borrowing or cultural diffusion, but because of both originating in the Primordial Tradition, sanâtana dharma, al-dîn al-hanîf, which all the prophets of Allah have brought and reaffirmed throughout the ages, among all nations, revealed directly from the Creator. From Malaysian Insider

PAS research chief Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad (said) the (Fatwa) council should not make a blanket ban but “lay down what is or is not permissible about yoga.”

This allows a Muslim to be critical of their own faith and empower them to make judgments based on convictions.”

The Kuala Selangor MP added that if the intention of taking up yoga was for the well-being of the body, mind and spirit, then religion need not come into it.

There is no need for this siege mentality where everything is viewed from the perspective of encroaching on Islam and attacking us,” he said, adding that if one wanted to stray from Islam, there were other ways besides yoga to do it.

PKR Youth’s chief strategist Yusmadi Yusoff also said that the council needed to be more specific with what forms of yoga it found objectionable as generalising the entire art under a ban was discriminatory and denied Muslims a choice of a healthy lifestyle.

The form of yoga practised in Malaysia is simply a healthy exercise. If the fatwa is on the basis of religious rituals or inclinations, then it must be more specific and detail what parts exactly,” he said.

      Excerpts :

Malaysia's top Islamic body, the National Fatwa Council, fresh from banning tomboys, issued an edict Saturday that prohibits Muslims from practicing yoga, saying that elements of Hinduism in the ancient Indian exercise could corrupt them.

The Council's chairman, Abdul Shukor Husin, said many Muslims fail to understand that yoga's ultimate aim is to be one with a god of a different religion — an explanation disputed by many practitioners who say yoga need NOT have a religious element.

"We are of the view that yoga, which originates from Hinduism, combines physical exercise, religious elements, chanting and worshipping for the purpose of achieving inner peace and ultimately to be one with god," Abdul Shukor said.

News of the yoga ban prompted activist Marina Mahathir to wonder what the council will ban next:

"What next? Gyms? Most gyms have men and women together. Will that not be allowed any more?"
The edict reflects the growing influence of conservative Islam in Malaysia, a multiethnic country of 27 million people where the majority Muslim Malays lost seats in March elections and where minority ethnic Chinese and mostly Hindu ethnic Indians have been clamoring for more rights.

Recently, the council said GIRLS who ACT LIKE BOYS violate Islam's tenets.

The government has also occasionally made similar conservative moves, banning the use of the word "Allah" by non-Muslims earlier this year, saying it would confuse Muslims.

Analysts say the fatwa could be the result of insecurity among Malay Muslims after their party — in power since 1957 — saw its parliamentary majority greatly reduced in elections because of gains by multiracial opposition parties.

Malay Muslims make up about two-thirds of the country's 27 million people. About 25 percent of the population is ethnic Chinese and 8 percent is ethnic Indian, most of whom are Hindu.

Decisions by Malaysia's Fatwa Council are not legally binding on the country's Muslims, however, unless they also become enshrined in national or Shariah laws. But many Muslims abide by the edicts out of deference, but some, like Putri Rahim, plan not to follow the latest fatwa.

"I am mad! Maybe they have it in mind that Islam is under threat. To come out with a fatwa is an insult to intelligent Muslims. It's an insult to my belief," said Putri, a Muslim who has practiced yoga for 10 years.

There are no figures for how many Muslims practice yoga in Malaysia, but many yoga classes have Muslims attending.

Egypt's highest theological body also banned yoga for Muslims in 2004.

A top yoga practitioner in India, Mani Chaitanya, said the Malaysian clerics seem to have "misunderstood the whole thing." Chanting during yoText Colourga is to calm the mind and "elevate our consciousness," said Chaitanya, the director of the Sivananda Ashram in New Delhi.

"It is not worship. It's not religious at all. Yoga is universal. All religions can practice yoga. You can practice yoga and still be a good Christian or a good Muslim," he said.

Malaysian yoga teacher Suleiha Merican, 56, who has been practicing yoga for 40 years, also denied there is any Hindu spiritual element to it. "It's a great health science that is scientifically proven and many countries have accepted it" as alternative therapy, said Merican, a Muslim.

A Respected Muslim Woman Comments on Yoga Fatwa

      (Commentary by Hajjah Marina Yusoff)

"...I am shocked, aghast and dismayed at the fatwa on Yoga and the dressing of not so feminine clothes.

What will they think of next?

It seems to me these people have nothing better to do. Their posts are redundant and they have to do something to attract attention. Unfortunately the attention they attract is very negative and further destroys the liberal image of Islam Hadhari which the Prime Minister had tried to portray.

I have been practicing yoga since I was young and have never become a “lesbian” or joined the Hindu religion as alleged by these ignoramus!

What an insult to Muslims and particularly women. Insulting women and belittling them seems to be the main target of these men!

Stop it before people start calling you MORONS!

There are more important issues to focus and worry about such as the killing of innocent civilians, women and children under the false guise of ‘jihad’. The killing of innocent women who have been raped. Instead of punishing the rapists, the poor innocent victim is put to death for the ‘shame’.

This is not ISLAMIC! Islam stopped the killing of innocent female infants! Read the Quran and know its meaning properly. Study what is the SUNNAH – THE WAY OF LIFE OF THE PROPHET and follow it!

Any level thinking person will know that they are way off track. No wonder the International media too has been has such a negative view of ISLAM by headlines such as ‘Muslim terrorists’ and the like.

How is that we never see headlines like ‘Christian terrorists’? As such they blame every negative incident on Islam whereas it is these ignorant and not so well informed people who are further enhancing the true meaning and purpose of Islam.

Stop it now before it is too late!

JAKIM should be shut down immediately and safe good public funds which could be put to better use to assist the poor and needy. There are enough ‘Muslim’ organizations already looking after the Muslim interests without them messing it up and making more Muslims particularly women angrier.

When the women march there will be no stopping them!

      The Fatwamen's Schindler's List

      Excerpts: Read here for more
Along with Yoga, I'd recommend fatwamen to fatwa the followingactivities and products on the grounds that they contain non-Islamic elements and go against the teachings of Islam. They should be replaced by alternative activities to reflect Islam's purity.
      1. No swimming please, we're Muslims

To discourage swimming which as a sports has pagan roots and therefore can cause Muslims to deviate from their faith.

Swimsuits are tight-fitting and show off the human figure which might cause girls who look like boys to rape boys who look like girls. Our swimming team must instead be covered up from head to toe in a cylindrical-shaped costume to hide the figure and reduce water resistance.

If the OCM does not approve, ban OCM for meddling in Islamic matters.

Also ban swimming pools because Muslims who visit them are not sincere. They go there not to swim but to ogle at foreigners.

If these foreigners are deemed to cause Muslims to stray from the straight and narrow, ban the foreigners also.

As an alternative, I'd recommend we build a Muslim-friendly swimming pool.

Failing which ban swimming and swimming pools because the Hadith and Quran do not say a single word about swimming therefore it is alien to Islam.

Traditionally, among Muslim Malays, only naughty children who disobey their parents can be seen swimming in the river or monsoon drain.

We Malays don't swim, we bathe, in the river.

      2. Boycott all products made by kafirs

All products made by kafirs are financed by loans with interest, riba. Thus the two are intertwined and should therefore be deemed haram by association.

Another good reason to ban kafir-made products is that kafirs eat pork.

From the haram meat of the pork they draw their sustenance, energy and intelligence to do work which goes into the making of the products. Therefore the products are derived from pigs which are haram.
And what are some examples of the kafir products that we should ban?
      • . The material to make tudung is called polyester/nylon/ terylene/ PTTPE which to my cerebellum do NOT sound Arabic at all and therefore safe to conclude is non-Islamic.

      • Names of cigarettes like Marlboro, Dunhill, Benson & Hedges also do not have that sonorous Islamic ululation like the azan and should therefore be banned. It is alright if we repackage them using an Islamic sounding name like Zaitun and encourage smoking by tagging it with a chirpy slogan like, "Hisaplah rokok Islam tanpa was-was," the way we have repackaged St John Ambulance and the Red Crescent to Bulan Sabit Merah which to me sounds more like the name of an associate of Awang Sulong Merah Muda. The day they make this cigarettal Islamover, that would be the day they make Islam pure and complete if not hell.

      • All the materials to make a mosque - the bricks, the cement, the wiring, the ICI paint, must NOT be sourced from kafir sources. Instead, Muslims must first build their own factories using pure Islamic machinery sourced from the deserts of Saudi Arabia whose spanking airport at Jeddah was built with American and Korean - kafir - finance - riba - and expertise - porcine-sourced.

      • Tear off the non-Islamic brand names of The PA sound system used in mosques such as Sony, Sennhauser, Onkyo, and replace them with Islamic names like Soh, Braheng and Stopa. And as for the Chinese sub-contractor who installs the fittings, install a Malay datuk as a front or sleeping partner to make it look Islamic. Feed him off to sleep with a fat payoff. There, all the Islamic work done for the day!

      • What about the Mercedes or Volvo the head of the fatwamen is driven in to the meeting at which all the above products and activities are to be banned? Same methodology and theology - tear off the three star and V icon and replace it with a framed name of Muhammad (pbuh) and Allah (tam) which can be bought at any pasar malam stall whose owner bought it from a frame-maker who sourced his materials from a Chinaman!

Forget about status symbols, even representations (a stylized writing is a representation of the thing it refers to no different from an image drawn, photoshopped or reflected in the mirror or the surface of the water) of our prophet and god are made in China, land of kafirs despite the 60 millions of Muslims who live there, and by kafirs despite the fact even kafirs are also made by the Muslim god which presumably must be the same god of the kafirs since there is only one of him!
Savor the convoluted sentence! I purposely contort it to reflect the sinuous maze fatwamen set as a course for themselves to work through in order to justify their sinecures, or as one visitor to this blog puts it, "got all their panties/underwear in a twist ... "

      • Ban golf and five-star hotels

After all our prophet didn't play golf and what is so Islamic about golf anyway that drives droves of Muslim datuks to drive a ball and a buggy down its drive?

Golf is a western conspiracy and plot to tempt Muslims to deviate from their faith and praise western imperialism.

And as for five-star hotels, there is not an iota of Islam within its beeholes bar the kaabah-pointing arrow on the ceiling above the beds on which courting couples, er, court, but which the Muslim staff has a 24-hour watch on goings-on and exposed human tissue which could get the underwear of fatwamen into another twist to come up with the next fatwa issue.

The new issue could well read:
We hereby declare that it is NOT haram for Muslims to work in five-star hotels, ogle at bare skins, serve alcoholic drinks and mix freely with kafirs as this will not detract them from their faith.
"Get real." I suppose I could do worse than to borrow (the) thunder and apply it to the fatwamen. Btw, that last word is NOT supposed to resonate with "fat women."

Razak Baginda's Press Conference - So Who is Guilty?

Read here article on the press conference by Razak Baginda

Razak Baginda Admitted Having a Love-Affair with Altantuya

        http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=ztcZC5NZzfk

Read Commentaries HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE

The Malaysian court has cleared Razak Baginda of ABETTING in the murder of Altantuya.

That means our Malaysian court REALLY believes Razak Baginda had NOTHING TO DO, directly or indirectly, with the murder of Altantuya.

Be that it may, what about the persistent whispers and allegations of a link to Najib Razak, the Deputy Prime Minister and soon-to-be Prime Minister of Malaysia with the Altantuya murder?

Razak Baginda's press conference pointed out two things:

        1. Najib Razak and his wife had NOT MET Altantuya. "I know that Najib and his wife had never met the deceased Altantuya," Abdul Razak told a packed press conference.

        2. There was no link between the deceased and the submarine deal which has been the subject of widespread speculation as the motive for the murder of Altantuya. He said the "purported deal" was inked in June 2002 but he had only met the deceased in late 2004.
Here's the problem in the court of public opinion with Razak Baginda's statements:
        1. Altantuya's body was blown to bits with C4 explosives in the forest. Ordinary citizens don't normally have access to these kind of explosives. Currently still charged in court are two POLICE OFFICERS associated with Najib Razak.

        2. In the court of law, one does NOT need to have met physically the victim of a grisly murder to be still convicted of ABETTING in the murder. Razak Baginda's press conference on Najib Razak will not satisfy the court of public opinion. Razak Baginda is a close friend and confidante of Najib Razak.

        3. Even though Razak Baginda said he only met physically Altantuya in 2004, it does not rule out the likelihood of Razak Baginda having communicated/ intereacted with Altantuya by other means in the period prior to 2004 on the submarine scandal.

        4. Altantuya came all the way from Mongolia to Malaysia to be at the front gate of Razak Baginda's house,(he admitted to having an affair with Altantuya),and the next thing Malaysians knew she was blown to pieces with C4 explosives in the forest.

        5. Razak Baginda said he was innocent and was in fact "caught in the system, the system puts you in and the system will get you out.". However, we also do know that a FAULTY and corrupted system, legal or judicial, though of no fault of the accused, that acquits a person for causing or ABETTING a murder, will still wear the necklace of guilt for the charge. The Malaysian judiciary, and especially the awkward way the Malaysian police and our public prosecutors go about conducting their responsibilities, are not without very obvious faults, or some would say, done suspiciously, as recent cases had shown. (Curiously enough, the Public Prosecutor in the Altantuya case is not going to appeal the verdict on Razak Baginda, as reported in the media).

Here is what Malaysians are led to believe following the acquital of Razak Baginda and the implication by Razak's press conference that Najib Razak and his wife are totally innocent of ABETTING in the murder of Altantuya:

        1. Despite having Altantuya harassing him at his front gate and at his office, some compassionate souls decided to do a favour for Razak Baginda by blowing up Altantuya in the forest with C4 explosives, WITHOUT Razak Baginda's own knowledge or approval or urging for Altantuya to be rid off permanently from the face of the earth.

        2. If the two police officers are found innocent in court:

          (i) it means the murderers are still at large;

          (ii) that Altantuya decided to commit suicide by wrapping herself with C4 explosives;

(iii) the Malaysian police investigation team into the murder are a bunch of incompetent fools by any standard; (by the way, the murderer of little Nurin is yet to be found after more than a year)

(iv) the sitting judge is highly competent or otherwise in adjucating this straight-forward case without ANY fear or favour.
The "SCENARIOS" we are led to believe after the acquittal of Razak Baginda by our Malaysian court are:

        • SCENARIO ONE:
After Altantuya was found to be harassing Razak Baginda at his front-gate and at his office, some individuals decided on their own initiative WITHOUT the knowledge of Razak Baginda to take care of Altantuya's nuisance. These individuals picked up Altantuya and brought her into the forest to be blown up with C4 explosives.

          SCENARIO TWO:
        • After Altantuya was found to be harassing Razak Baginda at his front-gate and at his office, some individuals decided on their own initiative WITHOUT the knowledge of Razak Baginda to take care of Altantuya's nuisance. One or several of these individuals on their own initiative without the knowledge of Razak Baginda contacted OTHER individuals who have access to C4-explosives to fix Altantuya up which then led to her being blown up in the forest.

          SCENARIO THREE:
        • After Altantuya was found to be harassing Razak Baginda at his front-gate and at his office, Razak Baginda called one or some individuals he knew to find some ways to get Altantuya away from his front-gate and away from his office. One or several of these individuals on their own initiative without the knowledge of Razak Baginda contacted the other individuals who have access to C4-explosives to fix Altantuya up which then led to her being blown up in the forest.

          SCENARIO FOUR:
        • After Altantuya was found to be harassing Razak Baginda at his front-gate and at his office,Razak Baginda called one or some individuals he knew to find some ways to get Altantuya away from his front-gate and away from his office. These individuals then on their own initiative without the knowledge of Razak Baginda contacted the two police officers currently charged with murder to find a way to get Altantuya out of the way of Razak Baginda. The two police officers then allegedly acted without the knowledge of DPM Najib Razak, to have Altantuya blown up with C4-explosives in the forest.

          SCENARIO FIVE:
        • After Altantuya was found to be harassing Razak Baginda at his front-gate and at his office,Razak Baginda called on Najib's bodyguard, without Najib's knowledge, to get rid of Altantuya from his house front-gate and from his office. The two police officers then allegedly acted without the knowledge of DPM Najib Razak, and Razak Baginda to have Altantuya blown up with C4-explosives in the forest.

          SCENARIO SIX
        • After Altantuya was found to be harassing Razak Baginda at his front-gate and at his office, Najib was told by other sources of Razak Baginda's distress with Altantuya. Najib then allegedly called and asked the two police officers to help Razak Baginda out with the problem. The two police officers then allegedly acted without the knowledge of DPM Najib Razak, and Razak Baginda to have Altantuya blown up with C4-explosives in the forest.

          SCENARIO SEVEN
        • After Altantuya was found to be harassing Razak Baginda at his front-gate and at his office, Razak Baginda called his good friend Najib for help to sort out his problem with Altantuya.Najib then allegedly called and asked the two police officers to help Razak Baginda out with the problem. The two police officers then allegedly acted without the knowledge of DPM Najib Razak, and Razak Baginda to have Altantuya blown up with C4-explosives in the forest.

          SCENARIO EIGHT
        • After Altantuya was found to be harassing Razak Baginda at his front-gate and at his office without much success, Altantuya decided to commit suicide by going to the forest and wrap herself up with C4 to be blown to pieces.

          SCENARIO NINE
        • After Altantuya was found to be harassing Razak Baginda at his front-gate and at his office without much success, she flew back to Mongolia. All this talk about the murder is a lie.

          SCENARIO TEN:
        • This murder case is actually an international novel to be made into a movie by a Malaysian-Mongolian film company.
        TAKE YOUR PICK!!

MALAYSIANS CAN STILL BE FOOLED AS IN THE PAST WITH COURT CASES LINKED TO POLITICIANS AND THEIR COHORTS.

We shall have to wait to hear what the two police officers being charged in court have to say in court under oath.

IF, only IF, it is true they did blow up Altantuya, did they do it on their own initiative? And will they say so ?

        OR

Had they been given direct or indirect instructions/ suggestions by those concerned to get rid of Altantuya from the face of this planet? And will they say so?

Perlantikan Kroni UMNO Sebagai Ketua Hakim: Gangsterisme Versi Baru Dalam UMNO

Almaklumlah... ketua hakim kroni mereka sekarang!

        Politik Wang Dalam UMNO

        Politik Gangsterisme

        Cerita-Cerita Wakil Rakyat Kena Bunuh

Almaklumlah... ketua hakim kroni mereka sekarang!

".. ( In June 2005)Tan Sri Zaki Azmi took a second wife quietly in a ceremony in a textile shop in Perlis . Both he and Nor Hayati Yahaya, 32, agreed to burn the original marriage certificate to hide the marriage from his first wife.

They also reached an agreement before the marriage that if the relationship soured, they would let each other go. The relationship unravelled on July 10. After disagreements and a number of disturbing text messages, he divorced her on that day.

Since then, he alleged that he has received various threats from Nor Hayati. She allegedly demanded RM10 million and urged him to register their marriage. Tan Sri Zaki is now seeking a declaration from the Lower Syariah Court here that his second marriage is null and void.

In his statement of claim filed on July 26, Zaki said that Nor Hayati and he were married in May this year in a ceremony presided by a kadi from Thailand. After the ceremony, both the newly-weds signed a form, which was written in Jawi and Thai.

He sought legal advice after the divorce and was told that his marriage may not have been legal under the local Syarak and Syariah law. The 59th Federal Territory Consultative meeting states that a marriage performed by a Thai kadi outside his jurisdiction in Thailand is considered void..."

Tan Sri Zaki Azmi confessed that he bribed court officials when he was a
lawyer - this is clear from the New Straits Times report:
"What I am telling you is not fiction but based on my own experience in private practice," he said at an integrity convention here.

Recalling an incident in 1987, Zaki said he was "blacklisted" when he complained to the chief registrar of two missing files belonging to his clients.

"It took me six months to be nice, to bribe each and every individual to get back into their good books before our files were being attended to.

"That was my personal experience, and I am telling this to
all the clerks and all the registries to stop this nonsense and I know this is happening, even as late as last week... a lawyer came to see me."

He added that the clerk asked the lawyer to come the next day to
collect the file after saying "tapi jangan lupa, ya", signalling him to come with cash.

        COMMENTARIES

From "Kamal Talks" blog: Read here

        Excerpts:
It has been reported that the Conference of Rulers had endorsed the request made by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to appoint Tan Sri Zaki Azmi as the next Chief Justice.

Tan Sri Zaki who was recently appointed as a President of the Court of Appeal has direct dealings with UMNO and had served in many positions in the political party and government institutions, which undermines his credibility for being fair and to uphold justice.

At the same time, Tan Sri Zaki had also carried out illegal acts like marrying a second wife by dubious means and later unable to register it. This only came to light at the divorce proceedings at the Syariah Court. It was reported that during the courtship days, he had confess that he will remain with her forever.

Since there are various disputable factors, Tan Sri Zaki Azmi SHOULD NOT be appointed as Chief Justice to preserve the independence of the judiciary and in upholding justice.

The rakyat, the stakeholders should be allowed to vote the next Chief Justice on their respective candidate credentials.
