10.58pm:
Election Commission makes OFFICIAL announcement:

DAP - 18,845
BN - 18,447
Ind -232
Majority - 398

A crowd of 3,000 gather outside the main tally centre at Dewan Suarah to celebrate DAP's victory in Sibu. They shout, "Dacing tipu". Independent Narawi Haron lost his RM10,000 deposit.

The two-hour delay in the announcement of the result was due to a dispute in the postal ballots where 208 votes were rejected. This however did not change the final result. According to the EC, the dispute was over the validity of witnesses' signature for postal votes.

The final result of the postal ballots:

DAP - 70
BN - 2,323
Ind - 36
Rejected postal votes - 208

Pakatan Rakyat has managed to reverse its series of losses with this win in Sibu.

For DAP, this is the FIRST by-election which the party has won in 13 years. Sibu will be the party's second parliamentary seat in Sarawak to its existing Bandar Kuching.

NAJIB'S BUY-ELECTION TACTICS AND BRIBES
DIDN'T WORK FOR SARAWAK/SIBU VOTERS

"You Help Me, I Help You"

Sibu voters have replied to Najib, "I can't help you."

What Now, Mr Prime Minister?
Abandon Them even though they are Malaysian citizens and taxpayers?

With the defeat in Sibu, BN may delay the Sarawak state election to next year. Sarawak will need to call the state polls by middle of next year.

This is a pure case of money politics. If the money is from Najibs' own pocket, I'm sure he would not be so willing to part with it. It's the rakyat hard-earned cash he is playing with. This shows how low BN-UMNO would stoop just to get the deal done. I'm sure MACC would have a strong case of corruption here. But the people of Sibu is not stupid to fall for a low-down trick like this. Syabas and kudos to the rakyat of Sibu rejecting BN-UMNO downright.

As for that dickhead Ib Ali and half dead mamak kutty, please OPEN YOUR BIG MOUTHS and state that the Sarawakians are ungrateful and Sarawak should get out of Malaysia, let this be seconded by that racialistic and corrupted mamak kutty. With Perkasa's panel of brilliant economic and financial strategists, coupled with Mamak kutty's know-how, we do not need Sarawak's petrol money.
Next is that SUPP candidate Robert Lau. He is upset at Malaysiakini for not "writing good articles about (him)" and then accusing Malaysiakini of being "extreme left"? Hello, Roberto, just because you and your pals are used to the mainstream media's pandering to your needs and obvious biases toward the BN/UMNO because of oppressive media laws, and the fact that your buddies own the mainstream media, doesn't mean everyone is like them. Dont be a sore loser. MCA/MIC/GERAKAN/PPP and now SUPP are irrelevant to the rakyat as long as they are in BN/UMNO. Come on, Roberto, leave BN and join PKR before you fade into oblivion. NOW!!!!!!!!
